Re: Powerlift Gate Handle bowed

I'm shopping for a JGC and saw a ton of cars with this issue.
How does factory quality control let stuff like this out the door?

Did you notice the misaligned body panels as well? Talk about low quality control. I guess drinking on the job is still allowed at JNAP. Every 2014 Grand Cherokee on the lot at my dealership had misaligned door/body panels. But I digress. I love my Jeep.

I sure did, this is my post below on the delivery checklist thread.
Coming from BMW where the build quality is top notch if not the reliability, these fit and finish issues are making it very hard to buy a jeep. My X5 was built in SC so it can be done but I have no idea where Jeeps quality control. I still want an Overland but kind of nervous reading and seeing all this stuff.

I almost bought one today with $4500 off labor day incentives but it had a paint defect where I didn't want my new car getting resprayed as there was no way else to fix it. It had misaligned panels and even the rear tailgate handle was incorrectly installed with a gap in areas. The hood was too close to fender on passenger side.
Did not exactly inspire confidence to dropping over $40k.
It was an August build and they should not be having these kind of issues this late in production.

I'm glad I came across this post because I just noticed this as well. I'm new to this and, maybe I should start a new thread, but what's the best way to get my rear hatch and drivers side door aligned properly as well?

Re: Powerlift Gate Handle bowed

The closest Jeep dealer to me, not the one I actually bought it from, adjusted my misaligned rear bumper and liftgate handle trim under warranty.

There is a Star Case for the Handle adjustment, there should be no issues getting both corrected under warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't an issue that I would have to spend a significant amount of time convincing them to fix. I'll call the dealership tomorrow and see what they say.

Some dealers have given people grief about fixing it but let us know if you have an issue. both items are straight forward corrections.

Sorry for the delay. My three issues (bowed handle, misaligned hatch and misaligned divers door) got sent to Chrysler who is now talking with me. She told me that it will take her a week to talk to dealerships and see who can fix these issues. Hopefully this gets done right. This woman was very nice and even said that she probably with give me a "good faith" credit because I also had to get the sway bar/ links fixed the day after I bought it. We'll see what happens but at least I didn't have to argue with her.

Re: Powerlift Gate Handle bowed

Interesting. I noticed the bowed handle after seeing the thread so I noted the star case for my dealer when I was in for an oil change and they took care of it with no questions asked.

So the dealership said that the first thing they have to do is take pictures to send in. Then they can work on fixing the aforementioned issues. Bizarre.
