Re: Powerlift Gate Handle bowed

Does anyone know when this gets fixed if they have to order a part in the color of your Jeep? I'd like for them to have the part when I drop it off.

By the way, I did check and it does LEAK !!!. And my bow is pretty modest and I'd let it go if it didn't leak. I will definitely be getting it fixed.

Re: Powerlift Gate Handle bowed

How many folks here have had it fixed without them replacing it?

I can't imagine an "adjustment" would ever work. It's looks like it's over sized and it bows as the bolt it down.

My dealer (not the one I bought it at) wants to try "adjusting it" first.

I really don't want to make two trips to the dealer for this. Nor do I like the idea of them ripping the back off twice.

Temped to squirt some silicon in their just to stop the water from going in there and leave it.

So many issues with rattles etc. when you start taking panels off, that's how things like that can happen.

If it didn't leak, I'd certainly just leave it.

I might try the dealer I bought it and see what they say.

Re: Powerlift Gate Handle bowed

Mine fits pretty well. But when I did take a look at it I didn't notice any kind of gasket between the handle and the sheet metal. I'm pretty sure that you could remove the handle that is warped and throw it away without anything internal getting wet.

I think the TSB indicated there are only 2 screws holding it on. Unless your opposed to trying to help yourself, you might want to see about adjusting it and avoiding a trip to the dealer all together.

I started down that path. Partly to see if there was a gasket, if it leaked or if it was an easy fix.

So I popped off that center panel. Very hard to get off. Snapped some clips. I have a nice pry set. But it was nasty getting that off. $45 for new cover. The whole back definitely has to come off. After the fun of removing the little panel I wasn't about to do that.

Any way, after looking in there it didn't look easy at all. Very crammed with lots of hardware around the handle.

But I did manage to see that it leaked, spraying a fine mist at the back while I looked with a flashlight and it is dripping on electrical connections.

Probably wouldn't hurt anything for many years. But eventually will.

How practical my mist hose is, to what it could potentially see in real world I don't know. But it's not great.

They should just replace it, without a blink. It's obviously defective.

I keep saying I'll bring it in for something else but everything else has been ok. And I do my own oil change.
