Took mine in. I thought Jeep just had a poor HVAC control logic -still may be the case. Roasts you alive for better part of 10-15 minutes, then settles down and on hour plus road trips it gets cold if set on 68. I pretty used to it, but I was still frustrated dealer would not acknowledge problem and didn't care about tsb, star reports, etc. only open rapid response was a seat heater update. Then, the worst part is road trip to visit family and four family members all complaining and berating me for jacking up the heat and trying to kill them.... It was set on 67. It would be so nice to have the HVAC of my 12 year old pathfinder I traded for the jeep. Never roasted me a single time, it was a set it and forget it system. There has got to be a way to improve this system.

I know! If you knew my wife you would understand the extreme irony of watching her turn down the heat because she's getting uncomfortably hot (with a setting of 64 °F while it's 19 °F outside, no less!).

The system simply blows air that is too damn hot. Who cares if it would "take longer" to get to a set cabin temperature if it were to output a reasonable temperature? If the occupants are sweating and miserable the whole time it is "helping" then it certainly doesn't matter to them.

Pathetic. Very "clever", Jeep.

Re: Problem With 2014 Grand Cherokee Heater

Roadkill that is how I know that this car is malfunctioning because of the people in the car were normally cold and are asking me to turn the heat down.

I had to drive to my dealer today to get my updated third paperwork. I have a call into my jeep rep and waiting to hear what now. Will be interesting to near his next steps. I know the lemon folks said stop talking to them and just let them handle it. Will give jeep one more opportunity for a make right but not holding my breath because I believe it's a faulty deign.

Re: Problem With 2014 Grand Cherokee Heater

Driving home this beautiful 75F day in TX. Always had auto climate controls set between 68-72 depending on car and sun position. Previous cars were Infiniti G35, 2012 Durango, 2012 MOPAR12, and now 2014 JGC. Surprised when hot air blowing out of vents @ 70F setting with outside temp of 75F. Having read this thread now I'm concerned. Set to go to dealer on Thursday. The Jeep did indicate outside temp was 41F when it was in the 60s a couple of weeks ago, but it appeared to fix itself later that day. 10/13 build <500 miles.

The external temp readout being wrong is another known issue we have been waiting for a fix for. I am surprised a late build like 10/13 still has that issue. Who knows maybe they are still rolling off the line with the external temp readouts wrong today

Do all 2014 JGC have heater problem? If you test drive a new JGC how can you determine if the heater is a problem?

Go on a day it is very cold outside. Set the heat on auto at 68 degrees. See if you feel like you are in an oven after about 10 minutes.

One thing I find strange is the heat coming out of the dash vents. All my other cars when set to full auto sent heat out the floor vents and cool air through the dash. You had bilevel as an option.

Re: Problem With 2014 Grand Cherokee Heater

bill_de's approach is a good suggestion. I will echo his point that this really should be tested on a cold day to maximize the odds of catching the problem.

I want to emphasize the intermittent/erratic nature of this issue; you really want to try to test this on multiple starts of the vehicle if at all possible. It may seem to be acting nicely, but then you shut off the vehicle, leave/come back 5 minutes later, start it up again, and all of the sudden it is blowing air heated in the very fires of hell.

One additional test possibility is to put the system in "manual mode" and turn the blower all the way up. That should make it more apparent if the system is blowing painfully hot air. Remember to let the vehicle warm up... the Jeep can't incinerate you until the engine is hot enough, so for the first several minutes after a cold start it may deceptively seem to be fine. Then the sweating starts...

Re: Problem With 2014 Grand Cherokee Heater

Also agree with the above on a 20 degree day set it to auto at around 68 and you will roast.

I test drove an Overland EcoDiesel last weekend that seemed to exhibit this problem. Set to auto and 70 it roasted us out at first then settled and was fine after 5-10 minutes.
