I parsed this to mean the engineers already have a diagnosis of the cause and the resolution requires changes in both hardware (head unit) and software. If this is the case, then this will be a rather expensive recall for Chrysler.

First and foremost I want this issue repaired, but obviously a software flash fix would be best for everyone involved... as long as it actually fixes the problem.

This won't be a recall because people won't die from it. There will just be a tsb issued and I'm sure the dealer has to verify the problem before they can fix it anyways.

I'll bet that in all the time they've spent working on this, somebody already thought of that. If they did the software first and it didn't work, requiring a return trip to the dealer, how many people here would say, "I'm sure glad they didn't fix it the first time."?

The reason it takes so long to send these fixes to the dealer is that they try to cover every scenario. They need a fix that works properly at the lowest possible cost.

s542001 - mentioned a control unit, not a head unit.

Here in Atlanta the temp goes from 30 to 60 to 30 this time of year. This happens to me without fail when the outside temp is 30. Happened today. For two days last week when it was 60 it didn't happen at all.

Prediction - in July they will need to 'verify' the issue when they confirm the fix and then won't be able to with temps in the 80s/90s. Sigh...

Re: Problem With 2014 Grand Cherokee Heater

When I spoke with the dealer service director last week, he said that Jeep was still uncertain as to whether they want him to both replace the control unit and flash the software, or just the latter. Either way, he said he had a new control unit in his office.

During my conversation yesterday with the case manager, she said that they are going to direct the dealership to replace the control unit and flash the software. She said that they have determined that it will be more effective to do both at the same time.

I will prove an update after the work is done, supposedly late next week.

Re: Problem With 2014 Grand Cherokee Heater

agree the summer time operation is not normal but it is not as bad as the winter time operation. I just accepted it last summer as the strange way it operated and didnt complain however the winter time operation I do feel the need to complain. Winter time operation crosses the line and they need to fix it. If it ends up being a hardware fix I hope it is an RRT and not just a TSB becasue i can see arguments coming with dealers on proving the need for a new hardware fix. What is cut and dry wrong to us will continue to be normal operation to them.

I do have an HVAC problem that I haven't seen anyone complain about yet. I use the Auto setting with my temp set at 74 degrees. The blower fan doesn't come on immediately but rather a few minutes later after the engine warms some. To my knowledge that is normal operation.

One day after work the blower fan didn't come on, even after switching to manual mode and running the fan speed up on the display screen and changing the vent settings. Nothing after shutting the HVAC off and turning it back on several times. The vehicle was at normal engine operating temp.

I drove it over to the dealer and debated on whether to leave the vehicle running so I could get someone to come out and see it malfunctioning. I decided to shut it off and restart it to see if it would reset itself. Sure enough, the blower fan came on when I restarted the vehicle and turned the HVAC back on.

I've had that happen a total of 3 times so far. The last time it happened, I shut the HVAC and the vehicle off and restarted it 3 times... the last time also getting out of the vehicle and locking and unlocking the door before I could get the blower fan to come on.

One other customer reported this same problem to my dealer. One of their techs had been doing some research into the problem and found that there's an issue with one of the HVAC modules "retaining a memory" and the fix is to replace the module. I guess this worked for the other guy so far and mine's scheduled to have this module replaced next Monday. We'll see how that goes.

LOL... I sure hope this "fix" doesn't end up creating more problems than it solves.

Update... so far so good. No more "failure to blow" since they replaced the module. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed... LOL.

Re: Problem With 2014 Grand Cherokee Heater

I received a second Chrysler Corp Survey on my Summit. I mentioned that all my Heater/AC, Tranny buck, and USB radio lockup problems are still driving me nuts.

There was areas to give detail and I put these links for them to look at and see what is really going on in the lives of G.C. Jeep owners. The first survey I was immediately contacted in about a week. Lets hope they get back to me again. My USB radio use is futile now. Its a real POS. Other than this stuff the car would be perfect.

Indeed my early 2013 build had no issues until I took it in for recalls last month and the shop did all of the updates without me asking for them. Now the HVAC requires constant temperature adjustment as it cycles from hot to cold to hot, and the temp has to be set at 66-68 instead of 73. I had a 2011 that was fantastic. The 2014 is not.

I am in the same boat as you. I did not have a problem until the dealer reflashed the the HVAC software for the remote start TSB. Very frustrating.
