My 2011 JGC is having a problem with the push/start button. It will not start unless I pop out the button and then put it right back in. Then when I want to turn the vehicle off, I have to pop off the button again and put it right back in. The key will start the vehicle every time though. Any ideas on why this is happening and how to fix it?

Mercedes do this from time to time as well. Its usually the battery in the FOB that does this. How removing the stupid button and re installing helps I have no idea.

The button could be going bad, lucky they are universal if you arent under warranty just hit up ebay. The auctions steal these things all the time from our cars and sell them as lost or unclaimed items.

You don't need no stinkin' button. I looked at a new '11 on a dealer's lot in a small country town of Sandersville, GA. that did not have the push button anywhere. It was a Laredo-X and it was the first one that dealership had received....they were really more of a Dodge dealership. No little bag in the glove compartment...nowhere. I asked the salesman where the push button was. He told me that it did not have the push button start and that I had to use the key. It said on the sticker "keyless enter and go". I got in for a test drive and when the salesman got in I handed him the key and stuck my finger in the hole and pushed and it cranked. The salesman's jaw dropped about 2 inches.

So, if you want to know whether it's your button or your ignition switch, just use your finger.

I have a used 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I've had about 4 months. It has 59k miles on it. The push button start will not work. The FOB works to enter the vehicle, lock/unlock doors, etc. but when I press the brake pedal and push the button, everything works like it wants to start, but it doesn't turn over. I've never had any any problems and it just "happened". Any suggestions?

I had a similar issue with my 2011. Used the DiagFCA software to look at various systems and found that, since I had replaced some door lock actuators in 2017, somehow the WIN system decided I had a 2017 GC, which may have been affecting the push-button start.

Long story short, using the software to clear all codes a few times, going into the settings to reset the Model Year to 2011 for the WIN system and resetting the ECU from the software fixed the problems. Push-button start works fine now with the button, no FOBIK key required (though you can always use that to start and operate the vehicle).
