QL Clunk - Anybody Else Hear It?

I noticed it when I was on some mildly rutted trails at low speed last week, but when I was in a construction zone yesterday on a major road I noticed the same thing.

I hit a bump (nothing major, just what you usually see in some construction zones) and heard the normal impact, but immediately heard the suspension make a noticeable clunk/thump sound as if the QL was quickly pushing the wheel down.

Has anybody else noticed this? I'm trying to figure out if it's normal for this system - it's loud enough to make you curious.

TIA.

It would make sense if you have it in the OR-II setting as there isn't a lot of travel left in the suspension.

If you were driving on the road in NRH and still heard the sound, I would have it checked out. It all depends to on how large the bump/hole was, how the suspension would have reacted.

Good point. The first time was in ORII, but yesterday I was at NRH (although the bump was bigger).

I'll keep an eye on it.

Re: QL Clunk - Anybody Else Hear It?

i've gotten a clunk possibly like what you're talking about as well with my coil spring suspension. may not be only QL related.
i want to chalk it up to something in the sway bar/bushing/mount/link as each time its happened to me i've had some decent articulation at decent speed occur.

Re: QL Clunk - Anybody Else Hear It?

Read one of the car and driver reviews, it mentions that while the overall suspension is well designed on the WK2, the travel of the suspension seems limited because it reaches its bump stop too often. That is what you are probably hearing if it was a moderate bump you hit.

Yup. . .I haven't had any more issues with it - I think you're right.

Re: QL Clunk - Anybody Else Hear It?

I started hearing a clunk, too. I do not have QL. I do have load-balancing suspension (or whatever they call it) with the towing package.

Took it in to the dealer. They were able to reproduce the clunking noise. They couldn't figure out what it was. After some time of checking everything under the rear of the car, the tech decided to remove the stuff from the spare tire bin. (The stock stuff; I haven't put anything else in there.) After that, the clunk went away. He put the stuff back and the clunk returned. The woman at the service department called it a design flaw and said she was documenting it with Chrysler so hopefully over time they'll have a pattern of complaints and will come up with a fix. My suggestion, take it to the dealer and have them discover where it's coming from. If it's the same as mine, make sure they report it to Chrysler.

Thanks for the input.

Fortunately, I haven't heard the clunk in a since my OP. But if I do, I'll definitely have them check that out.
