Quadra Lift

I purchased a 2011 Overland ... delivered about a month ago. I haven't had any occasion to use the Quadra Lift until the recent snowstorms on the east coast. Today I noticed as I was coming down from Off Road 1 to Normal Ride Height and instead of the rear of the vehicle coming down slowly and smoothly, as it has been, it came down abruptly and with what I would describe as a loud grinding noise.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Were you pressing on the brakes? I know the systems are different, but on my dads Lexus LX if you press the brakes while it's going down it makes a grinding noise

Re: Quadra Lift

I was in park when I lowered the vehicle so very likely I was pressing on brake. I'll try it again without doing so. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Quadra Lift

As the vehicle raises and lowers the positions and orientation of the tires changes (camber changes, etc.). If you have the brake applied you've taken all the slop out of the drivetrain so the sounds you hear are either the tires moving on the ground or a wheel breaking free from the brake shoes to release pressure. I got that a lot on my Cayenne and Touareg and it is disconcerting the first time it happens.

To test if there's any sort of real binding happening simply come to a stop, place the vehicle in neutral and don't use the brakes. There shouldn't be any loud noises.

Re: Quadra Lift

Was there ice and snow in the wheel wells? I had this happen one time when I had snow caked under there, I assume the sound was it breaking apart.
