Re: Quadralift FAILED

Not to take away from the data but that is their survey conducted in 2011, there are several vehicles that were discontinued years ago. But in 2011, that is the overall reliability results for those perhaps several year old vehicles. I don't know how far back they go, but I don't think you can draw any conclusion from it for the Y2011 model GC.

Interesting, although any 2011 SUV survey that includes the Jeep Commander obviously incorporates earlier models somehow (go figure). TrueDelta results for the WK2 should tell more, and are due out before long. But it won't be until CU's 2011 detailed reader feedback is compiled and published that we'll be able to infer whether the QL is really a serious issue.

quote directly from the study...

"The study, which measures problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of three-year-old (2008 model year) vehicles"

Re: Quadralift FAILED

Nice digging, which further underscores the limited utility of JDPower's so-called "2011" data except for buying an old car. The only reliability rating they have for the WK2 is "predicted" at:
http://www.jdpower.com/autos/Jeep/Gr...okee/2011/SUV/ Unsurprisingly, it is the same rating as they give for three-year-old GCs, so how useful is that.

More can be gleaned about the WK2 from JeepGarage members' comments and the occasional poll than from any other source until True Delta comes through, then CU. The JG QL poll is the best indicator of that feature's reliability we have for now, and so far it suggests a yellow-flag warning: too statistically limited to be hard and fast, but an area that bears close watching.

As to the Jeep engineer's comments, perhaps he was referring to the QL's design, which seems to be just fine. The issue appears to be one of component reliability, not engineering quality.

Your guess is as good as mine....so I posed this question to the largest Jeep dealer in the state of Ky's service manager this morning. The only reported problems they have had with a QL was misuse by a new owners child...ie. pushing buttons etc while the parent was out of the vehicle etc. and the compressor overheated or something and was replaced. They have sold approx. 50 QL equipped vehicles(number from the top of his head...so VERY unscientific) and this was the only QL equipped vehicle to come in for warranty on the system. The JG survey is BS...sorry...but it is. Matter of fact...he told me that most warranty items are customer related on ALL vehicles they service.

Well that's nice and all but I can tell you that I did not abuse my quadra lift system. In the 2 weeks since i took delivery of my Summit I used it occasionally to lower to entry/exit height and maybe once to see how high it would go. If that's abuse then the components are certainly NOT trail rated. I'm not saying the survey is scientific at all, all I'm saying is that quadra lift components such as the compressor and control module sound like they are problematic based on what several others here have reported, and I am hopeful/optimistic that Chrysler is working to correct this. JeepGarage is one of the most active and enthusiastic auto owner sites I've ever seen and when you hear of multiple people that have similar failures so soon after a vehicle delivery there can certainly be something to that. I'm DEFINITELY NOT saying that my wk2 (or yours) is a piece of crap or that I've been treated poorly...in fact other than this QL issue and some quibbly things I love my Jeep (my first American made car ever) and my dealer has been great so far. Of course not all dealers are the same and we have heard a number of horror stories, which I believe.

Look, I'm not upset, just very disappointed. Anyone who gets a beautiful new toy like this would be when it lands in the shop for an undetermined amount of time with only 500 miles on it. At least they've graciously offered me a free rental car.

Re: Quadralift FAILED

Based on various postings at the TrueDelta blog, it would appear that the next release of repair statistics, likely including WK2 feedback, should be at the end of this month. More good news is that the site is incrementally implementing upgrades to how and what information is presented.

The Supreme Court famously said that you can choose your opinions, but not your facts. Trouble is, there are facts and "facts." This is the focus of a thoughtful TrueDelta editorial piece on perceived shortcomings of Consumer Reports vehicle repair data. Granted, this is Macy's talking about Gimbel's, but Michael Karesh's conclusions are well worth reading at http://www.truedelta.com/pieces/shor...?session_code=

Consumer Reports obtains data from tens of thousands of readers. Statistically, this is an enormous advantage that TrueDelta can't hope to emulate anytime soon. Nevertheless, TrueDelta is ahead of the curve in handling what data they do get. They are innovating, CU isn't.

Our company went through something similar when we went up against an established publication that was afraid to alter a winning but stale formula. It took us less than a decade to trounce them and more, mainly because we were lean and hungry while they were bureaucratic and complacent.

We'll see how TrueDelta fares over time, but this is one horse race that should benefit us all.

Some of you guys really amaze me jumping to these huge, uneducated and uninformed conclusions. And the comment about a 10% failure rate on "another forum".......I would love to see that as jeepgarage is by far the best and largest wk2 forum on the net......and its not even close.

Be careful what you wish for...

From my QL poll on the JeepForum.com site:
- No problems with the QL system at all ..................................49
- I've had Error msgs/lights but the system is still working ........3
- The system has malfunctioned and needed repair work ...........6

Thats 58 responses total and 9 reported issues. You do the math. I was generous with my failure percentage.

Here is the thread and poll URL: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f309/...rs-ql-1154625/

Why don't we start a poll on this iste and see what kind of numbers we get?!?

that is a joke bro comsidering the amount of 2011's that have been sold with QL....sorry...but it is. All your polls are useless...most 2011 members dont even post here...they just browse. I know by the number of 2011 members I see join, pay for tracking etc. If that isnt true.....then your poll says there are only 57 2011 owners on jeepforum with QL...but you have to add in the usual 10% of smart asses who just repsond to polls because they are idiots and dont even own a 2011. I have seen this in polls here. WJ, WK and other owners vote just to make themselves feel better about their previous gen jeep. Now if you could get a large population of the over 150000 2011's that have been sold....say maybe 10000 to reposnd to you in a poll whether of not their QL has failed or not...then Ill accept it. I just know from speaking to people "in the know"...that QL is NOT the biggest complaint with the 2011.

Without regard to jinxing my QL....

Laredo X built 8/25/2010 with Quadra Lift.
Puchased 2/9/11.
6600 miles

No issues.

QL works up and down many times per day.
Hot or cold (90F-10F)

This transmission programming on the other hand.....
Can't wait for a Superchips tune or something....

For someone for whom this would be their only vehicle used daily to go to work, those aren't great odds.

I kept telling people on a Toyota 4Runner forum (my current vehicle) that Jeep Chrysler had learned from their bankruptcy and had now learned the importance of good QC. I told them the new WK2 would be a much better vehicle than previous versions and all their talk about poor Jeep reliability was no longer true. I still hope that will be the case very much. IMHO, there is no other vehicle that matches the features and ability of the WK2 unless you spend about double the $$$ (Porsche Cayenne) so I'm really hoping they improve things.
