Re: Question about locking the jeep

I have been locking my vehicle's using the inside lock button on the drivers door. I've locked every vehicle I've owned the same way for the past 25 years. BUT about 2 months ago, when I lock my 2014 Summit the same way, once in a while the vehicle unlocks all the doors as I'm walking away. Dealer asked STAR about this problem and of course STAR doesn't know where to begin to find the problem. No surprise there.

And no, I don't carry my cell phone with me so thats not the problem.

Re: Question about locking the jeep

I lock all my vehicles with the button on the outside handle...except my '94 Nissan. I don't lock that one.

Re: Question about locking the jeep

I've never used the interior button. 60% exterior button, 40% fob when I forget to use exterior button

From the door button on the outside or the trunk. Can never be bothered with fishing the fob out of my pocket; unless somebody is already at the car and I'm, say, across the street.

Re: Question about locking the jeep

Button on the driver door handle or the button on the rear gate handle if I'm taking something from there. I keep the keys in my pocket, so I rarely if ever use the fob to lock it.

Re: Question about locking the jeep

90% using the inside lock button, it's quieter.

I enjoy the loud horn honk when people use their remote to lock it ( and they're two feet away from their car)...that's neat. Yes I know there's an option to have the horn "off" when locking from remote, but if I forget to lock the doors *, I know I've locked the doors from many feet away with the horn.

* usually when singing a Brittney Spears song.

p.s. inside lights work as expected

Re: Question about locking the jeep

I use all three, just depends on what is at hand when I lock it.

After only a few days of ownership I find myself leaving the key fob in my jacket pocket, and just pressing the exterior button on the door handle to lock it.

Although today I grabbed a bunch of stuff from my trunk while at work and just walked back inside my building (had arms full.) Then I used the Uconnect app on my phone to remotely lock the Jeep from my desk, worked like a charm!

I have had this happen on my 14 Overland a few times too. But found that if I stand about 3 ft from the door when I close it, it doesn't happen. Maybe what happens is that if you stand real close to the vehicle when you close the door, it thinks you left the key fob in the car. Something to try. Al

Thanks Al. Just strange that I've had the vehicle since March and this only started occuring recently. I also thought that if the vehicle senses a keyfob within the vehicle, it's supposed to beep the horn 3 times then unlock the vehicle. It's never beeped the horn. My main concern is that it may unlock itself while parked and then theft of items within or the vehicle itself may occur. But I guess that's why I've been paying insurance premiums for most of my life.
