After a run out to the store this morning there is green antifreeze dripping from both outside edges under the front bumper cover. I did not see any obvious leaks from the top, but looking from underneath, I see it collecting on the lowest point of the felt-type fender liner very near where it connects to the lower front bumper cover. I'm going to bring it in to the dealer in the morning.
I have seem some posts. These radiator have plastic tanks. I occasionally can see a wisp of steam coming up from grille when stopped at light, with an occasional smell of antifreeze, but the level hasnt gone down. I mean to have them pressure test the next time in for service.
Will do. They were pretty booked up for today, I didn't make an appointment since it happened yesterday, and there were a few ahead of me. He thought, if they can get it checked it would be toward the end of the day, if not tomorrow morning.
I expect that they will do a pressure test while in there
It shouldn't be green anyhow, as far as I know if someone put regular antifreeze in that alone will be problematic. I think 14 would still be orange and 15 is red, not sure the break but it's definitely not green.
I wondered about that too. The overflow bottle had pink fluid in it.
I did just come out of a drive thru car wash though?

Just called the dealership. The antifreeze should be pink.
I'm going to guess it must have been the soap solution used in the car wash.
I asked them to do a pressure check since it was in and I had seen a wisp of steam come out of the grill area every once and awhile.
They're going to call me back here in a bit & I'll report back
Got a call back. Pressure checked the radiator and it was fine. The antifreeze is pink, so this must have been the soap used in the car wash. Makes sense now because of where it was leaking from and it really didn't have that antifreeze smell to it.
But they did see that power steering fluid was leaking from the power steering boot on to the rack from a bad seal. They are going to replace the rack, seal & boot tomorrow. Still under my 3 year warranty, whew...
Glad I got it in and they found the other problem.
It's just like any water runoff after a car wash I suppose, maybe just had too much soap in the mix at this place. It recently opened up in my neighborhood recently so I thought I'd give it a try. I like these touchless ones that spray the undercarriage in the winters out here.
Steam from the radiator when stopped isn't unusual under some conditions.. in cool weather the radiator fan often isn't running, and any moisture (rain/snow/spray/condensation) that gets on the radiator will evaporate..
Some vehicles run the radiator fan at lowest speed when the vehicle is stopped to mask this.
If there is enough coolant leaking to cause visible steam on an ongoing basis, there should be visible signs of leakage (dried coolant stains, falling coolant level)
If your smelling coolant And seeing steam it's a leak, plastic tanks have many failure points that barely show but if there's smell and there's no coolant residue being introduced, recent fill and other moisture, its a leak. The amount of fluid it takes to create a small waft of steam could easily go undetected. A single drop could create a visible puff, how many drops before it's a noticeable change in level. When these tstats fail, common on v6, a first sign is faint intermittent smell of coolant.
Sadly this jeep has conditioned me to wait for the other shoe to drop. 4 wj's a few zj's and I would relax and write of things as a fluke, a creaking didn't mean a failure, in the wk2 when there's steam there's fire.
I've had this vapor problem for nearly 2 years. At times it greatly annoys me and other times I shrug it off, as it's been 2 years after all.
I don't think it's from (rain/snow/spray/condensation) on the radiator fan as this happens 12 months of the year whether I wash the vehicle or not.
For MY12, it seems to blow vapor for 10 seconds or so, then stops. I guess just enough time for the liquid to cool to not vapor any more. dunno. Of course it always happens when I'm stopped at a light, and I can't get out and investigate further and it never seems to happen when I'm parked in a parking lot or at home on driveway.
I've brought it to garage and they told me it was leaking from my PS rack, which I can see there is sign of a leak around the PS rack boot, but I have no fluid stains on my garage floor or office parking space and my fluid level hasn't gone down, granted if it's only a drop or two every now and again, then I guess It could take a while for the level to drop to a noticeable level. When funds permit, I may look at replacing the rack but I'm not convinced it's from the PS rack boot.
I think it may be coming from my a/c condenser / transmission cooler. A quick youtube search does show people have this problem. But again, no stains on my parking areas floor. I'm just past the transmission service interval so I'll have them look at it again when I bring it in.
Picked it up this afternoon. They, of course, did not see any steam when it was in for service and could not diagnose it. No leaks anywhere, with the exception of the steering boot.
not sure if that could cause the wisp or not.
