Ran out of Battery and get it towed to the dealership.

After being out of the country for two and a half month, I can expected my Jeep would have ran out of battery for sure and it did. There isn't anyway to unplug the battery nor take out a fuse to have the battery disconnected as I was told by the UConnect support. The first thing I did was to get a battery charger to charged up the battery. It charged up to 11V. Everything worked except getting the car started. So, the next thing to try is to Jump the car using a Jump cable. I hook up the cable and started my rented Ford Explorer. However, when I jump into the Jeep, it was telling me the No Key fob is detected and the key fob is in my pocket. I called UConnect Roadside Assist and they arranged a tow to the dealership. The Jeep is now in the dealership and here are some photo and video of my Jeep being towed to the dealership.

Re: Ran out of Battery and get it towed to the dealership.

You might consider using a battery maintainer next time you leave for an extended trip. I use a Deltran Battery Tender Plus for my classic car since it gets infrequent use in winter. Never had the battery fail.

Never saw so many pictures for a dead battery!

You can easily disconnect the battery cable when you leave town. It's under the front passenger seat.

I think it's lame that the vehicle can't shed parasite load when the battery is low. The system is obviously capable of detecting this state (c.f. Battery Saver load shedding as discussed in the Owner's Manual).

Anyone purchasing a battery charger/tender for a WK2 should ensure that it is compatible with our AGM batteries:

NOTE: Typical battery chargers ARE NOT SUITABLE as the voltage and current regulation ranges of typical battery chargers are unsafe for AGM batteries.
Johnny, please let us know how this turns out, how long it takes the dealer to resurrect your battery, etc.

Maybe the key fob run out of power too? did you try pressing it against the power button? It has an nfc chip that supposedly work even if the key fob battery is dead.

at least it looks like the Tow operator knew what he was doing, I had to have mine towed out of garage and I had to stop him 3 times from hitting my GC roof on the garage door opening

Re: Ran out of Battery and get it towed to the dealership.

So, here an update of situation. I called the dealership before 5pm today. I was told most of maintenance service I scheduled for today appointment is done. However, they cannot figure out why the car doesn't start. He told me I probably will able to get my car back tomorrow afternoon. Well, at least I got something interesting from the mail today....

Here are some videos a took when the car is being towed early this morning.

Actually, per Deltran's own FAQ, the Plus model is compatible with AGM batteries but the basic Deltran Battery Tender model is *not*.

This is definitely a caveat emptor scenario, because a knockoff replacement AGM battery for our WK2's is like $300. It's far more expensive than that if you go through the dealer for a replacement.

Re: Ran out of Battery and get it towed to the dealership.

Think it is around $170 from Sam's, just an H7 AGM AFAIR. I have been using little HF float chargers for years, too small (about 80ma) to damage anything so far.
