Rattle in center console 2014 JGC limited

I just discovered this morning a weird rattle in my center console. I it when I press ok the throttle at around 40 MPH. When I let go off the throttle it goes away - it's very odd. I've had my car for 2 weeks with no issues then this came along. Anyone experiencing a similar issue ?

Re: Rattle in center console 2014 JGC limited

I seem to have the same problem with my '14 SRT. Mine occurs typically in the lower gears under moderate to brisk acceleration. I would describe the noise as sort of a "metallic oscillation", not too dissimilar to the sound of a butter knife being twanged against the edge of a kitchen counter.

I've had multiple people sit in the back of the vehicle and listen for the noise. It certainly seems to be coming from the center console or the front passenger seat. I reached underneath all of the seats and found no loose wires or bolts. I also checked both of the "smuggling compartments" under the front seats where the battery and electronic control modules are stowed. I found nothing amiss there either. Lastly, I checked the spare tire storage area. Everything was in order there as well. The only place I haven't checked yet is inside the center console as I wasn't feeling that adventurous yet.

Have you made any further progress with your rattle hawada?

Check out th V6 rattle thread. Maybe it's the same thing you are hearing. My "rattle" seems to come from the left side of the engine but noises can be hard to trace. To my knowledge no one has found the cause.

The key similarity is it only happens under moderate acceleration.

No progress at all. Took it to the dealership and they couldn't "replicate" the issue. I have learned to ignore it for now unless it gets worse.

Well, against my better judgement, I've made another appointment with the dealership. I dread to think how many new rattles I'll have after they're done tearing my Jeep apart. *sighs*

I'll let you guys know if they actually find anything.

Re: Rattle in center console 2014 JGC limited

So, my Jeep has how been in the shop for 3 days. The techs have removed both the passenger seat and center console. The noise seems to be coming from a small, inaccessible space just above the transmission tunnel under a small, welded metal piece inside the cab of the vehicle.

The techs have been on the phone with various Chrysler representatives and everyone seems to be totally stumped.

3 other techs and the service advisor have all heard the rattle and agree with me that it isn't something that could just "be lived with".

I brought up the possibility of Chrysler buying back the vehicle and sending me a new one. The service rep said that it's a definite possibility if the rattle can't be found soon.

On the positive side, there were two options missing from my current Jeep that I would've liked when I bought it (the laguna leather seats and the rear seat Blu-Ray entertainment system). If I do get a new unit built for me, perhaps they could be persuaded to include these options (for a reasonable fee possibly).

Either way, I'm not out of the woods yet on this one.

That sucks man, I hope they find a solution. When I put glasses into the sun glass holder, the thing rattles when I listen to loud music. I sure hope thats not the issue you are experiencing because that would be a easy fix.

I have a rattle in my glovebox, driving me freakin nuts, dealer claimed to adjust the glovebox, idk about that, but it was good for a day then came back worse,it hums or vibrates around 40mph or low rpm and throttle,as soon as I hit the gas it goes away, guess I gotta bring it back in,

p.s. I didn't think dealer would buy back for a vibration, good for you if they do

Re: Rattle in center console 2014 JGC limited

I think that the buyback deal is an option due to the severity of the rattle. It is quite obnoxiously loud- similar in intensity to twanging the springy doorstops found in the typical house.

If it were just a mere squeak, I don't think I would've bothered taking it in to the dealer. Often times, they create new noises in their efforts to hunt down the originals.

Re: Rattle in center console 2014 JGC limited

So, finally got a call back from the dealership today. They fixed it! Turns out that they really didn't need to pull out the passenger seat and console. The problem turned out to be a loose nut on some sort of driveshaft support bracket.

The reason the rattle was so loud in the cab of the vehicle was that the bracket is attached to a stud that threads in through the floor of the vehicle under the console.

My Jeep is now as quiet as a grave (with a Hemi in it). :P

The only downside, however, is that I need my shifter knob and the silver-painted console trim piece replaced as they were damaged during the Jeep's stay at the dealership. Fortunately, the tech was honest about it and both pieces are being replaced free of charge.
