Re: Rattle - Rear Passenger inside compartment area

I had a similar rattle/popping sound develop after they replaced the gas tank for the sloshing tsb a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was related to them not getting the exhaust or fuel pumps put back on tight. It occurred when going over washboard surface type roads and sounded like a tennis ball bouncing under the cargo cover or rear seat. I also heard it doing the same test as you by backing over a driveway curb and isolating to the rear, I was worried it was the new tank baffling and I would have to get another tank.

But in the end, the dealer techs said it was the rear shocks and once they got them in the Jeep today the rattle was gone. The service manager claimed the shocks showed no outside damage and were not loose. Weird but I am happy its fixed now. Btw, I have the tow package with the load leveling shocks not covered by the suspension tsbs.

Interesting. Did they let you know how they diagnosed this?

Re: Rattle - Rear Passenger inside compartment area

The original tech that did the fuel tank replacement was adament his repair was not the problem so he took a tech that specializes in suspension out for a drive and that guy said it was the shock absorbers. I would of thought shocks too except that the noise didn't begin to occur until after the fuel tank replacement; all I can think is the hoist caused the wheel assemblies to sag when lifted and that did something to a probably already failing shock.

FYI - My problem still exists, errrrr. Its not as bad but its still there. Now it almost always occurs when I am making a left hand turn and give it some gas. I hear a little thunk.

So is the noise still there?

I just started to hearing this squeak noise from rear passenger side. It happens when I brake or accelerate suddenly and go over the speed bump. First I tought real hatch was touching body panel but it still makes the noise after the dealer adjusted hatch locking system.

Do you think TSB 17-002-11 might cure this problem? Mine is Sept. 2010 built and has only 7000 miles on it. I've never had any new car with this much rattles.

Re: Rattle - Rear Passenger inside compartment area

I have this rattle as well. I started thinking it was coming from the rear flipper glass maybe, or subwoofer area. Then recently we had freezing temps and i started to hear this creaking noise like a spring recoil squeeking. Was worried it was bad shocks.

Dealer is going to perform TSB 17-002-11 to just apply some "NYE Grease" - I hope this takes care of BOTH of the noises though. The creak, AND the rattle which sounds like it's coming from the inside.

Re: Rattle - Rear Passenger inside compartment area

if that doesn´t work, give it a try to this:
take the rear upper seat, and clean the bolts and holes with wd40, and bolt it down again; make sure the bolts are tight as much as possible.
That did helped me with a squeaking sound coming from behind my 07 GC.

If you have the tow package with the self leveling shocks it is a commonly known problem. Search for 'clunk' & 'rear'.

Bad news even with replacing the shocks they noise (rattle or clunking) comes back. There are several including myself who have the third or fourth pair of shocks in. There is one TSB out supposed to fix the self leveling shock problem by replacing them. But the version of part they mention (...AC) has been replaced already by a new version (...AD) and rumors are that an AF version is on its way.

Press thumbs that your problems are a different one.

Re: Rattle - Rear Passenger inside compartment area

I have the identical issue with my 2011 Overland. Were you successful in tracking down the problem, and was there a related TSB for it?

Thanks

Re: Rattle - Rear Passenger inside compartment area

I had a rattle coming from the right rear quarter. After I made the the dealership replace the rear shocks (thinking this was it, from reading other forums) no fix. I took my Summit home and after several days of searching found that it was from the exhaust hanger. The rubber bushing for the muffler is connected to a metal pin. This pin is welded into a box that is bolted onto the frame. The weld came loose and the noise from the vibration was carried throughout the quarter through the vent. I used some JB weld but just incase it doesn't hold through the winter the box was $15. Hope this helps someone!

Re: Rattle - Rear Passenger inside compartment area

Does anyone's noise sound like this. Noise is coming from the rear, recorded from the driver seat though so its kind of quiet. It's a knocking noise.

Re: Rattle - Rear Passenger inside compartment area

My rattle, buzzing, was at speed, started at 50 mph, on the highway. Found out that it came from the black plastic cladding under the hood. There was too much play under the plastic fasteners. Put some soft foam under it and the noise was gone !
