Rattle/vibration at 1500 rpm???

Ok, so for the most part I love my WK2. But there is one thing that is bothering the hell out of me and wondering if others have dealt with it.

When I am applying light pressure on the throttle and am in the 1400-1600 rpm range, I hear this faint rattle/vibration like noise coming from somewhere in the area of the driver side dash (can't pinpoint EXACTLY where). Noise disappears the second I release the throttle, resumes if I press back on it. If I press harder on the gas to push into the higher RPM range, the noise goes away (anything above 1700 rpm is usually enough). I tried to replicate the noise in park, but didn't notice it... nor do I notice in 1st gear, but the 8 speed is anxious to upshift anyways, so I don't expect to maintain 1500 rpm in 1st.

Anyone else have the issue? Over the summer when I got the vehicle I thought it was just my air conditioner rattling, but I realized it was completely separate. My dealership is 50 miles away so I'd like to have an idea what the problem is before driving down there (especially to avoid the "sorry we couldn't replicate the problem" excuse).

Check your engine cover. I had vibration and removed cover. Vibration gone.

Re: Rattle/vibration at 1500 rpm???

Will check the engine cover, but that doesn't seem to make sense. I mean, the vibration ONLY happens when driving, when the throttle is pressed gently, and between 1400-1600 rpm. Doesn't happen in park. Must be moving, must have the gas pressed, and the second I release the gas or go to 1700+ rpm, its gone.

So far the solution is drive in SPORT mode the entire time, since it revs the engine higher. Problem is, my wallet hurts at the gas tank if I drive in Sport all the time :-P

Seriously, it boggles my mind

I had a similar issue and it ended up being the plastic cover over the rain sense wipper sensor was just barley touching the windshield and virating only in certain rpm range. Sound bounces around alot and often hard to pin point. Simply pushing up on it solved a few months of aggrevation. Try that Good luck

If I was a betting man I would say it's coming from the chrome finish on the sides of the instrument cluster. Next time you go out give the cluster a pat down and you should find your vibration. Hope that helps you out, I hate annoying vibrations.

Re: Rattle/vibration at 1500 rpm???

So it was NOT the rain sensor.
Also, it is NOT the chrome on the panel. I've already pat everything down to check for loose items, but to no avail.

It is a hard to describe sound because its not a full on vibration. It is almost like a buzzing noise? When driving, it seems like it is coming from the front left part of the dash, but who knows. My friend who is a mechanic (he works for a Ford dealership) said, "If you came to my place with that, I'd hate you forever because it would take me hours to figure out where it's coming from." LOL

I know I am being picky, but ya know, when I get a $44k vehicle, I shouldn't hear ANY buzzing/rattle/vibration until theres at least 50k miles on it lol. THEN I can understand loose parts or rattles.

Sounds crazy but I just had issue with trim around fender on driver side rattling on bumps and around 1200 rpm. Knock on them with knuckles as that was my issue. Have someone sit inside with doors closed and engine running while pushing gas down too that Rpm and hit fender flare

Re: Rattle/vibration at 1500 rpm???

I had a similar issue that turned out to a plastic line on the drivers side inner fender.

Pop the hood and look along the top of the fender on the drivers side. You will see several plastic lines running together through a clip on the fender. They each have a slot in the clip. One of the lines on my Jeep had popped out of the clip after about a month of driving it. Made the exact noise you are describing. Pushed it back into the clip and hasn't given me any more problems.

Hope this helps.

Re: Rattle/vibration at 1500 rpm???

I have exactly the same problem with mine. I've had it into the dealer four different times for several days each time and so far they haven't been able to fix it. Every time I pick it up they come up with something they tightened down and tell me they can't get it make the noise anymore... and then it'll do it again before I even get out of the parking lot. There were some other posts on the forum talking about hoses by the firewall under the hood, etc, but none of those panned out.

The rain sensor cover and driver's fender plastic lines suggestions are new to me. I'll check those out and see if either of those makes a difference.

+1 for sound bouncing around a lot. One morning I had a strange rattle noise appear that sounded like it came from the passenger A pillar or glove box. As the sun came up, I pulled my sunglasses out of the overhead compartment and realized they were the source of the rattle :roll eyes:

I hear it too. Have no idea what it is. The quality control on these vehicles I'm starting to realize is non-existent.
