I first started noticing a subtle rattle in the steering column a few thousand miles back when riding over rough roads... and had it checked, but dealership couldnt even replicate the rattle.
Since then, however (at 8,000 miles), it got substantially and continually worse, rattling almost constantly and over every little bump in the road. It sounds like a small BB rattling around in the steering wheel.
It's some piece in the steering column they're goign to replace that "should" fix the problem. We'll see... anyone else have a similar issue?
I actually had this start at about 1000 miles. Took it to my dealer and my assigned mechanic (real thorough guy) found a loose steering column gasket. Part is ordered and am awaiting install
Sounds like my problem too. Please post the results after the replacement. Please give the dealer's name so that I can refer my jeep mechanic to yours. Thanks, Maggie
I had it too, they replaced the steering column module which contains some electronics and also the clockspring among other mechanical parts. It solved the problem.
I had this problem too. My dealer said it is an unused bracket on the side of the steering column. It was barely finger tight. They moved the bracket little and tightened it up. So far rattle is gone.

Just an FYI. This is the same rattle. Took it to the dealer and had them check for the bracket and sure enough, removing it fixed the noise. There is now a Chrysler Star case for it: S132300022
My 2016 Rubicon Hard Rock (9,000 miles) has started something simiiar after driving on a really bumpy road. Sounds like some kind of "Rattle" coming from the bottom of the steering column by the bottom of the instrument cluster. Only happens when going over a really bumpy road or rough bumps. On smooth roads/highways it's silent! Took it to the dealer, was told by the tech he took the car out and heard it, but that there are so many things in there that it could be, he chose to go no further! It's driving me NUTS!! HELP!!!!
P.S. Tried listening to the "Loose Bracket" video above, but it doesn't seem to work.
I also ordered a new steering column bearing. If I grab the steering column where it penetrates the firewall, i can see the bearing move around a bit. Is that normal?
