While I do agree every vehicle and every manufacturer have these calling cards. It's not how a AWD/4wd system should work. In the last 15 years, I've only owned AWD vehicles (1 4wd). 1 Dodge Durango, 2 Hyundai Santa Fes', 1 Buick Enclave, 1 Ford Escape, 1 SRX Cadillac and now my GCO. The GCO is the only one that has ever done it.

Jeep should care and resolve it, I've had two separate individuals ride in the vehicle that had been VERY interested in the GCO but didn't chose it for this exact reason. I'm happy with my vehicle and rank it 2nd best AWD I've ever owned, 08 SF was #1.

Yes, I too have the (bump/slack ,not noise) problem with my 2012 and it annoys me that I do.

Re: Rear bump feel when accelerating

Guys again,,

There is a thread just started here in the last three days confirming my suspension theory.

Work comp is slow and givinmg troubles so I cant search it at the moment to link it for you/

However it detailed how it was discovered to be the rear load leveling shock making its adjustment and after the shock manafacturer claiming it was not suppose to make any noise, they recinded and now after Chrysler got involved they now claim it is a normal by product of the load leveling suspension.

The thread is here and it the the input came from the Aussies through Jeep and the shock manafacturer. Was a fascinating read lol. Illt ry to link it here but my work comp times out on this website now.

Re: Rear bump feel when accelerating

Wasn't it 2011 when Jeep went from the hydraulically-operated clutches that were electronically controlled to electric motor operated clutch packs? They had several years to work on the hydraulic gyros system which provide smooth but slow engagement as they needed a bit of difference in axle spin to generate the hydraulic pressure that squeezed the clutch plates... I think. Electric motors provide quicker response (no need to to have a difference in axle rotation) and perhaps this more firm engagement is what is felt when things are quiet and you are taking a turn or starting off. The traction system is sensing what perhaps could be wheel spin, and engaging the clutch packs in anticipation. When there happens to be a difference in axle/drive shaft rotation, there may be a bump felt. A lot of the military vehicles I've tested have these kinds of bumps.

If enough of us complain, perhaps there will be a traction controller reflash. But I'd be concerned that the update would improve look and feel but degrade the performance (reaction time) when you need it.

If this was the case, you would think Jeep would just state so, so perhaps the operation characteristic observed (bump) is just the result of sloppy software programming and the fix is at the bottom of Jeep's to do list.

Then again, it just could be manufacturing tolerance build up and a sloppy drive train.... Mine bumps especially up hill left turns from a stop sign, something you would expect from a suspension component reaching its limit or a worn suspension. It doesn't annoy me one bit... but I'm a long term Jeep guy and have been through stick slip and 10000 mile u joints .

Re: Rear bump feel when accelerating

Confirm, having both and they are different.

A 'bump' thump once in a while when starting from stop (thought first it is the Hill Assist, bit switched that of and is still there) and the other is a 'box of marbles' in my trunk. According to the posts here and Jeep the marbles should only exist with the self-leveling shocks. On the normal suspension there are some TSBs for the 11s.
Don't know anything about QL but some posts indicate the marbles also.

Comming back to the start thump, I agree it feels like the driveshaft is annoying to me but currently on a low priority. Maybe its a tolerance issue in manufactering it or Some wear. Let's see if it gets worse with mileage.

I have 4k miles and start recognize it.

I agree. I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it looks so sexy and luxurious, but it drives like a jelopy or hoopty. All these vibrations, thuds, thumps, Uh-h-h-h-h. My 2001 Chevy Astro van does not have that many problems. I am thinking about getting rid of this Jeep sooner than later.

+1. The last time I had it in I told my service manager the same thing. I want to love this vehicle but my wife's 2006 Odyssey rides better than this Jeep. I can't stand all the thuds and clunks either, I find myself driving it as little as possible because it bothers me so much.

Re: Rear bump feel when accelerating

Hey Guys,
Have the same "Thud" issue after a start and is very intermittent. Seems if I let it roll a bit after a stop it doesn't occur. Had a similar problem in a Rodeo and was able to grease the slip yoke and it went away. Has anyone tried this....?

I have the same (and no self leveling shocks). It annoys me quite a lot but nobody else in the car seems to notice. Haven't had it with any of my other 4WDs.

Re: Rear bump feel when accelerating

It is starting to bother me more and more now....I would think there will be a fix for it at some point as it should be easy for Jeep to determine the cause. Mine didn't do it for the first 8k miles or so, so it can't be normal.
