My dealer wants to install new shocks to mine as well to provide me a clunk free vehicle until Jeep comes out with a fix (as they are working on one apparently). They stated there is a new revision of the shocks out which are on back order, so I will know more in a couple of weeks.

Anybody else with the noise gone when towing or with a loaded car?

Same here I guess they're on a national back order. I wonder if I'm getting the new design?

After towing the trailer this weekend I determined the sound goes away with any bit of load on the rear. With the trailer empty or full the sound is not there. As soon as I unhooked and pulled away it was back. So hopefully whatever these new shocks are they ordered will cure the sound. Suther have yours come in yet? I'm still waiting for the dealership to call me.

Ok, so yours is load depending. Guess I have to rent on for Uhaul for testing

Nothing heard from dealer as well. They stated it will take a couple of weeks.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

My noise goes away when towing also. It doesn't take much tongue weight either because I mostly pull a small trailer that weighs about 200 lbs. and i never notice the clunk when pulling it

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

Going in to the dealer on Friday for the clunk. They really did not want to discuss it last week when I stopped in to set up the appointment (after all, what would I know...).

And it just popped the Check Engine Light on the way into work this morning on the freeway (9250 miles). This has never gone on before. I pulled over, turned it off and back on - stayed lit. Drove it a few times today - still on. The engine sounds fine and normal. No valve/ticking noise or anything. Oh well, maybe the code will clear by itself. Called the dealer and had them add the CEL to the repair ticket. Hopefully it is not the V6 cylinder head issue...

Sorry to hear that. No worries for the head, better a new one within warranty then a defect one later on.

Good news to all, looks like Jeep has come up with a solution as one member stated that he got the info from ZF, that there should be a resigned shock at the dealers within the next two weeks. Sure it will take time to spread the news under the dealers but that should make us confident. Also in the sense of new heads

Sounds good, hope there is a TSB on this. Will make a note on my next service visit (32K) so that I make sure it's covered under warranty.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

OK - here is the information from the repair summary from the dealer:

Item 1: C/S check engine light was on for a couple of days and went off yesterday. Check found DTC PO441 Evap System Performance stored. TSB 18-050-11 addresses concern. Flashed PCM and cleared DTC's. Road Test. OK at this time. 18-19-06-P3 LOP. Warranty.

Item 2: C/S vehicle has low pitched clunking noise in rear very noticeable at low speed. Sounds like softballs in a plastic bucket. Test drove with customer. Heard slight clunk noise from rear over small bumps. Removed rear sway bar. Road test. Noise still present. Used chassis ears diagnostic tool. Isolated noise to both rear shocks. Reinstalled sway bar. Road test. Noise quieter but still present. Ordered shocks. On national backorder. Contact customer for appointment when parts arrive. PN 68069680-AB Absorber 17023001. Qty 2. Warranty.

The customer service advisor told me on pickup that the regional Chrysler parts warehouse told him the shocks are on "Galactic Backorder", and that there is a rumor that is because a new shock is being designed and a TSB will be released in the "near future" - best guess 1-2 months.

The dealer did a decent job, and even washed and dried it.

Justal that's the same part # my dealership ordered for mine as well. I'm still waiting for it to come in close to 2 weeks now.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

Mine are here, too. Got the call last week but was overseas.

I will get mine put into on Friday. However, my service manager already told me that this might not be the final solution. While they are the new shocks, there is no official fix from Chrysler announced. Manager stated that this is a customer satisfaction activity and as soon as Chrysler puts out the fix they will apply that.

So it is a bittersweet thing, at least they really take care about this.
