Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

Just as a short summary:

985 have checked this thread, only 35 of them have clunking, that means 3,5%, pretty good result for that car (I know weak statistic)

Suther any update for your repair? Did it help any? I haven't went back yet because if it's only a bandaid I'm not going to waste the time getting them swapped out just yet.

Edit: never mind saw what you posted in the other thread. I'll hold off going in for now. Let us know if it's still gone after some more miles.

I have heard occasional clunking from my rear but haven't thought much of it. 11 Summit 5.7L 4x4 Will have to inquire on next service. Good thread.

Yep, just a short sum for the other readers. They swapped mine to the famous ...AB ones which are out since 2010 but export ones. So far so good, because the clunking is gone. However, other readers had the same swap and the clunking came back after a couple of thousand miles. Even my service manager stated that this is probably not the final fix but they do it anyway to help me enjoying a.clunking free vehicle until then.

I am going to Florida in November, that's about 3000 miles, so I can tell afterwards.

Suther good to hear it's working out so far. I'll try and get mine in next week since they're finally in. My rattle/clunking has progressively got worse and I'm only at 2500 miles. My 80yr old father was riding in the back seat last weekend and told me he thought the lift gate was open. If he heard that then it must be bad lol.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

i had a rear rattle in mine as well. every bump was a bad rattle, turned out to be the black plastic casing on the rear glass (think it contains the rear defroster or wiper motor wires). plastic rattles against the clips in the piece.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

I need a fix for this asap...it's really starting to drive me insane...can't believe i spent 40k+ on something that has this aweful sound on bumpy freeways. There was a 20 minute section of freeway i was on yesterday where this sound just kept going on and on...

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

Got my rear shock replaced with new part number # 68069680AC and the computer reprogram. All done in two days.
The problem is gone, but it usually comes back between 700-1000 miles so I will report back then, if this new part number is the one that fix our problem.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

I live in the north and have discovered that it seems that with colder temps the clunking decreases. Anybody else experienced this?

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

I hardly ever have passengers in my GC all my friends know i'm a real douche when it comes to car cleanliness lol. But today is a friends bday my Jeep is at 3410 miles and the rear clunk was heard by all 3 of us in the vehicle. I'm getting ready to go back on the road to see if i can hear this myself, and if i can will the dodge dealership know about this? My jeep dealership has sloths as mechanics. lol

I was just thinking about this...i noticed just the other day that I could barely hear the clunking if at all. Thought it somehow fixed itself, but you may be right that temp might play a role.

In any event, ill wait for the formal tsb before taking the jeep in. Would like to know the fix is outlined and will resolve the issue rather than take it in numerous times to no avail.
