Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

I too am a freak about clean cars. I have had this Jeep since July and it has yet to get wet from rain or snow or anything else for that matter. It stays in the garage when even a hint of precip is in the air.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

For what it's worth, my Commander had a left rear rattle that was self induced. I replaced the rear shocks with gas shocks and didn't give the lt upper shock mount bolt quite enough torque. After retorque, no rattle.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

Got my new 68096980AB shocks and 17023001 absorbers installed today. Finally, silence. The clunk is gone (for now). Drove it 20 miles over some bumpy roads and is quiet as new. Took nearly 5000 miles for the clunk to show up the 1st time. I will be waiting to see if it comes back. Dealer says information and TSB for the redesigned shocks is not in"the system" yet.

I too have noticed the sound is not as bad since it's colder out now. Especially at night when it's been in the 30's. This is good.....might give us a few months of peace and quiet until they finally issue a tsb lol.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

I had the clunking. It began after my first sustained offroad trip.

Took the Jeep to the dealer, they installed the whole car microphone system to localize the source of the sound and it was determined to be a loose rear sway bar. Tightened it up and no more sound...

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

So by the way the poll is turning out it seems no matter your option and build, all trim levels of the beautiful WK2's are experiencing this issue. Mainly by the folks with tow packages, with the SLS. I'm like other people on here i'm going to wait for a TSB.

The one that surprises me is the quadra-lift with tow package. Doesn't that use a completely different shock? I thought the load leveling properties of quadra-lift are due to the air pressure regulation mechanism. Why would the QL have anything to do with the other load leveling shocks?

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

Has there been any new information released about the clunking? Mine keeps getting worse each week, still not bad enough for me to take to the dealership, but enough for me to notice all the time now.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

Had my rear shocks, mounts and absorbers replaced at 9500 miles a few months ago. They were replaced with new ones, same PN's as the originals (not the new redesigned new PN's). Just turned 12K miles and the sound has not returned yet. See my posting in the other thread for the PN information. I waited almost 2 months on back order before the new shocks arrived. Took the dealer only 2 hours for the replacement. Best luck.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

Had mine replaced 2000 miles ago with the "old" version (2 weeks waiting time) and while the noise was gone initially its coming back now.

Not as worse before it, but that was with 8000 miles on, so there is room for "development". Just glad my dealer anticipated this so we are both waiting for an official fix.

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

this is good to know. I'm going to see how bad mine gets and if it gets too bad I'll take it in. I've had a couple people in my Jeep and they ask "what is that clunking noise?" I hate to explain to them that my new Jeep has a shock issue lol so I just say "This is the first time i have noticed it." lol

Re: Rear clunking/rattling noise

Had mine replaced at 5000 miles with the original shocks. 6200 miles now and the clunking is back. I was pretty good until I took it offroad a couple of weekends ago. Not sure how that plays into it. Very annoying.
