I've asked in other threads but haven't gotten a straight answer. Does anyone know if it is possible to have the rear defrost / heated mirrors engage automatically with the remote start? I've tried turning off the car with the rear defrost engaged, remotely started it with temps in the low 30s but no rear defrost.
I think you answered your own question. I doesn't happen. I agree it would be a great feature. My Buick Enclave would remote start with the rear window defogger and outside rearview mirror heaters on if I shut it down with them on, and that was really nice in the winter when I had to leave it outside in the snow.
Well just this a.m. i hit the remote start, after i got in the jeep i found the heater on. But this was the 1st time under 40 that i've used the remote start. After that i saw that the heated wheel, seat and rear defrost[also rear view mir.]was on.All i can tell you for now is i have a 13gc overland and however i have my settings thats what happened.
I believe the remote start feature will turn on the heat, rear defrost, (This activates the heated side mirrors), heated seat, and heated steering wheel, if so equipped, when it is activated below 42*F. That's how the remote start feature is designed to work in cold weather.
Just started getting below 40 degree temps here. I'll have to check and see if the rear defrost and mirror heaters actually come on or not. I know the seat and steering wheel did heat up on remote this morning, but I didn't check the rear defroster and mirrors. Doesn't say anything about them in the manual. Hope they do!
Remote started a couple times today with temp around 35, and seat, steering wheel, rear defrost, and mirror heat all came on. The rear defrost button light was on. Since it wasn't snowing, I turned off the rear defrost, but when I remote started later it came back on again. I haven't had the hvac update for remote start done yet. I hope when I do it doesn't change the way this works. Satori, don't know why it isn't working for you.
I don't think my rear defrost comes on with a cold weather remote start, but I"m not sure because I've unchecked that box due to a related gripe..
What I'd really like is to have the option be "comfort with remote start" .. because when I check the box that gets me the handy bunwarmer and fingerwarmer on a cold remote start, I also get the bunwarmer and the fingerwarmer on ANY start in cold weather.. which is a pain, because I need neither once the car is warmed up.. I unchecked it because it is easier to turn the warmers on for that first start than have to keep turning them off for the rest of the day.

I noticed this today for the first time, drove the Jeep got it nice and warmed up, stopped at a store for five minutes came back out manually started the Jeep and both the seat and wheel heated up. Did not need or want it to come on Jeep was already warm. Also the check box for auto comfort on when starting does not stay checked. When I had my 11 Overland the only time the seats and wheel would come was with remote start, which is the way I prefer it.
I will have to check mine the next time I start it under 40 to see what all turns on but as I said in other threads most times I look the checkmark for auto on comfort is unchecked yet seat/wheel does heat when under 40.
Like others mentioned here, my heated seat and steering wheel do come on with the remote start (under 40) but the rear defrost does not. I have not had the latest flash done.
August Build Overland with 13.38.52 installed. Auto on works (even though the check doesn't show) but no rear defrost/mirrors when under 40 degrees either starting remotely or in vehicle.
So today with it snowing out and cold I did the remote start. I swear the rear defrost came on automatically for the first time ever. The only difference I can think of is the front window and rear actually had a good cover of snow. I'll have to keep an eye on it.
was wondering about the rear defogger. I shut the headed steering wheel and the heated seats off in the menu. The rear defogger comes on. It's freezing here in NYC.
I recently had the Heating/AC flash done, which addressed the fan stopping when opening the door after a remote start. After the flash, rear defroster/mirror defrost does indeed come on with remote start below the specified outside temperature.
Even after the HVAC reflash, the max defroster fan setting will shut off when you open the drivers door after a remote start (like it's supposed to)...but the whole climate system itself doesn't shut off completely like it did before the reflash. That was my problem...having to manually turn the climate system back on after a remote start.
And yes, the rear window defroster & outside mirror warmers now automatically come on too after a remote start below 37 degrees.
Well, I have my vehicle dropped off for the ORC recall. Doing an oil change too. I also requested an HVAC update so my defroster comes on with remote start when it's below 40 degrees. Lets see if that works. Will update thread with TSB code if it does, since no one else did for me.
My 2012 performs various functions depending on the outside temps.
Above 28 or so degrees, the heat kicks out as soon as the engine warms up. (Unless it's summer! Then the A/C kicks on!)
Below approximately 28 degrees, the driver's seat heater comes on 'high' setting, and the rear defrost (and mirrors) come on. And of course as soon as the engine warms up it kicks out heat.
My wife wishes we could set the passenger seat heater to come on too!
Especially in our MN sub-zero winters.
If yours isn't doing that, I would complain to the dealer.

I also have a 2012 and I believe the heat, rear defrost (including heated mirrors, if equipped), and heated steering wheel all come on w/remote start when the ambient temp. drops below 42*F. That information can be found in your owners manual.
So I just had the latest HVAC update done. TSB 24-005-15
Did a remote start this morning and it was 38 degrees. The rear defroster turned on! I'm not sure, but I think the front defroster comes on too now. Unless I left that on last night by accident.
Woot, I'm happy now.
