rear spoiler popping noise in sunny days

Hi..

As many owners already complain, my 14GC start making popping noise from rear spoiler.

Noises from headliner/Roof - anyone else?

Summary:
1. noise from rear glass or rear spoiler.
2. only outside temp is over 70F.
3. less noise if you drive in high speed.
4. sound like water dropping, but quite loud.
5. (my guess) the rubber block between rear spoiler and glass is creating high friction on certain temperature. I may need to put some silicon grease on rubber block or slightly tight/loose the spoiler from the rear lift gate.

Question:
1. Does anybody fix this issue? How to fix it?
2. Can I have removal instruction of 14GC rear spoiler? I have 11~13 manual, but rear spoiler looks different.

Re: rear spoiler popping noise in sunny days

If you move it from a cool garage to hot sun and listen, it sounds like the [harmless] popping is coming from the spoiler itself as it expands and contracts... not like rubber mounts grabbing and letting go.

Re: rear spoiler popping noise in sunny days

I have been facing this issue for two years, my remedy was using half inch firm foam in between the spoiler. Over time those pieces would fall out. Yesterday I removed the 5 nuts holding the spoiler and installed foam underneath each corner and the middle. Tightened all the nuts back on and so far so good.

Can you please elaborate the location of 5 nuts? I can see only two nuts on the each ends. Do I need special tools or just regular wrench is fine?

If i remember correctly i used a 10MM socket,

so two nuts are accessible with the lift gate open one on the driver side and passenger side,

You will then have to remove the plastic trim which surrounds the back window.

There are fill holes one on the left, middle, and right. Same 10MM nut

This link will give you a better idea, same concept http://www.wk2jeeps.com/misc/Spoiler_removal_wk2.pdf

Re: rear spoiler popping noise in sunny days

I just picked up my 14' summit for this same annoying issue. They confirmed what i already knew. I was told they had heard of this issue with a few others and said they had to get approval to replace it, which they did, within a week. Noise is gone! I have 32k on it, so it was covered.

Re: rear spoiler popping noise in sunny days

I am at 80K Km, i do have the extended 120K plus warranty but I am assuming that would not be covered.
