I have a 2X2 Hemi JGC Summit with 1500 miles. When I go over a sharp bump or even a speed bump at any speed other than crawl I get a "thump" in the rear end. I took it in and they said the spare tire was a little loose so tightened it but it still does not sound right and makes a noise. Does anyone have anything similar? The Jeep drives great but the sound makes does not seem normal at all. I hav test driven several and i dont recall hearing this. Thanks
I had the same thing, though this was before the most recent TSB. But they called it Shock Rumble and the dearler ordered new shocks. Though I still hear the clunk but not as consistent as it once was. I'm bringing mine back in for the TSB "Cure" we will see.
Oh, this is not just on new jeeps... My 02 wj has been in and out of shop and hanging all kinds of new parts....sounds like a bobbling sound or balls in a bucket. Very annoying
Does this apply to MY 2014? I see the bulletin says 2011 but I have this in the rear of a 2014 , oddly enough it only seems to be during or after driving in the rain?
I have a 2014 4x4 limited ecodiesel that did it. It got extremely bad after I put a old man emu lift on. Turns out it comes from the upper bushing on the rear shocks. The factory upper bushings are very soft and caused metal to metal contact. ARB sent out an updated upper bushing kit that completely cured the rear clunking noise. The bushings should fit the factory shocks as well.
I'd personally try the TSB first. But if it persists then there's no reason to keep fighting with Jeep when the fix is relatively inexpensive. The stock upper shock mounts are very soft and (I believe) poorly designed. They can't take the load from the stock Jeep load leveling shocks (that come with the trailer tow package without air suspension.) If you tow a bunch, like I do, those stock rear shock mounts fail very quickly.
This is such valuable information. Even though my wj is a 2002 I have a factory tow hitch as well. I have been chasing, or I should say, my mechanic has been chasing this noise . I have been paying the bill:lol::lol::lol: for over a year!
With lots of new parts. I even have new shocks....but not the shock mounts.
My wj is going in this week to have this checked . Could get in last week
QUESTION: do any of you find its more noise on the right side than the left?
But, it simetrical.
Glad to be of help. As far as the noise, I hear it on both sides. Usually only hear it in city driving over light bumps in the road, not much on the highway or heavier bumps.
Yes! It's quite prominent at speeds between 20-35. Especially over a bumpy road with imperfection. On a smooth road there isn't a sound...crazy:confuse
