Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

I just got word today of the status of the national backorder on the shock and shock mounts ending in AF version to replace the AD in the TSB.
The backorder now is 38,000 units in national b/o. They still don't have a date for when they are going to be release to dealers to start making the exchange under warranty.
In Puerto Rico where I live there is 5 cases filed to the Better Business Bureau and DACO(local BBB) and those have help expedite some information about the problem all GC with auto leveling rear shocks.
They are not even allowing anyone with the problem to leave there vehicles in the service area if you have the problem and you have been already upgraded to the AD shock update by the TSB announced in April. They just wont take your car for a second update until the new update is out of back order.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

That's odd. Either I will be getting an extended warranty or just trade mine in when the new body style comes out and order one without a tow package.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Had mine replaced about two weeks ago. Complete failure. The noise is back already. Because of this I will not buy another Jeep product probably ever. In fact I will probably sell this one with only 3000 miles on the odometer. Too bad because I like this vehicle otherwise. Very disappointed. 43 large paid for a vehicle and it is embarrassing to have anyone ride in it.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

In my opinion this $43,000 Jeep is a pile of junk. It has only 3000 miles and it sounds like it could fall apart at any second. Never again!

I agree to an extent. I love the Jeep brand and always have. If I did trade or sell I would end up another Jeep without the tow package.. I leave for the beach tomorrow (800 mile round trip) so I'm sure I'll know if the noise is back. I'll report back.

I got my Jeep back yesterday and everything s done in a great fashion. I can confirm the info that a new version of shocks is coming which should solve the problem. Unfortunately it is on Backorder and nobody knows when it is available. Until that they won't change the shocks because Jeep knows the noise comes back.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

I have been telling about this for months now. My shocks are in back order since February 2013 and like I mention in my post recently there is 48,000 units in back order for the new shock mount and shocks ending part number in AF.

On my way today to look at the 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland with no tow package.
Let see if the salesmen are good enough to sell me one today.

Has anyone experienced this in a 14? I only just posted in the Australia part about an unknown clunk/thud from the back of mine and saw this thread pop up

I know you did, just wanted to confirm you information from another source :-)
I think I read somewhere that a 2014 made the same noise already.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

After my last banging adventure where I filled a lot of places up with lithium grease and made the noise go away,I made it a week before it came back on right rear. I pulled the dust cover, joust cover and just crammed the accessible side of the shock mount with lithium grease yesterday---noise is gone. I examined the shock mount design as I was in there and I was amazed at what I was seeing. About 1/3 of the shock mount is hanging out in space unsupported. The side that fits up against the inside aspect is screwed directly into whatever metal that is. The outside 1/3 toward the wheel side of the mount is unsupported. I can put my finger between the top of the mount and the body. I can feel the upper end of the rod and what feels like a cheap ass c clip. As I see it, any motion of the vehicle laterally would cause some flex in the mount and/or metal its attached to since the wheel side of the mount is cantilevered out toward the wheel like a diving board. If I am correct, this means that the mount site was not designed correctly. I'm thinking that's why they keep redesigning the mount which then makes them change the shock. I am no shock expert-this is just a hypothesis based on what I am seeing. If I am correct, then there may not be enough of a shelf for the shock mount to ever have enough support to stand up to lateral torque and not clunk unless some serious welding goes on. Since the quadra lift uses different shocks, seems like it would produce more torque on the shock from the air springs extending than a non tow package jeep. It would also explain why most of us have had shocks blow out--the shock would be torqued apart from the lateral force. I may be totally wrong but everything fits the profile of what has been happening. It would also explain why something that would seem ridiculously easy to fix isn't. What I cannot believe is that they left the freaking design in that area the same for 4 model years. There is NO way they did not know it was a problem and did the same freaking thing for FOUR YEARS!---follow the money! We wouldn't want to spend the money to retool something on the assembly line...That's a wee bit cynical but I am an optimist....Jimmy Hoffa and Elvis are alive!!!!
