Took my JGC into the dealer today and had both rear shocks changed as per TSB# 17-005-13.
New replacement rear shocks part# 68069680AE.
Original shocks that came off Part# 68039560AA.
Now my complaint was as the TSB referred to, Clunk and or rattle heard at 10-15 mph
In my case more of a clunking. Which is quiet......for now!
I asked to take the old shocks home, As most of the talk on these shocks has been about the upper mounting bracket. I was hoping to have a hands on look at the them and all looks normal.
But what I did find was one shock acted as I thought a shock should, Springy, hard to collapse, normal. But the other one would not move at all, it was hard as a rock.
My two cents on my clunking problem:
What if that one self leveling shock pumped itself up for what ever reason (not that I ever had any heavy weight in the back and or towed anything) and never released that pressure.
Now you would have a very hard shock with possibly next to no travel and maybe just maybe that is what all this clunking is about???
So the next day my dealer service adviser calls and tells me that TSB 17-005-13 is no longer valid for my JGC.
As its no longer in the system and that Chrysler does not want to cover the parts and labour for those shocks.
(At the time, their Dealer Direct was intermittently down.
So I show them a correct copy/code of that TSB, off the net, on my phone which they used).
He also went on tell me that Chrysler is now saying that the clunking and or rattling noise is a normal operation of those shocks.
And that there is now a note from Chrysler not to change the shocks due to that noise.
I told him that one shock had next to no travel and that if its not covered under a TSB then cover it under warranty.
There is/was a problem with those shocks and that it was a very unsafe way to be operating a vehicle.
Will update if they get back to me!
