Was the grease thick, and was it enough to fill the space... mine was oozing out I put so much (I cleaned up with a cloth around the area). I ask because I used lithium grease (spray can) the first time and it wasn't filling anything up because it was liquidy thin and it didn't work. Only when I put in the thicker multi-purpose grease did it work. Still good, no noise.

Yes, it was ball bearing grease and I packed it in.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

would it be worth using rubber grease so it doesnt affect the rubber seals and covers? - but a big thanks for the suggestion - willl try with my my14

edit - maybe its the grease swelling a rubber component resulting in a tighter fit?????

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

My shocks have gone from clunking to randomly clunking OR locking up so small bumps feel like running over cinder blocks.. has anyone seen anywhere to get aftermarket shocks yet? I can't leave my vehicle sitting at a dealer lot.. have to use it for work and such..

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Ok.. did some research tonight and did find shocks for sale but for over $300 each..

BUT the non load leveling ones are only 50. Does anyone have a way to verify this part # to make sure its the right thing? I will never tow with my vehicle and the noise is just making me crazy now to the point i hate it..
Thanks

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Are you fellas certain that they are only replacing the shocks once? My replacements have been on my truck for 10k miles now and they have started to knock again. My truck is within 1k miles of the bumper to bumper warranty expiration.

If I get these replaced yet again..... will Jeep provide coverage on the new part for another 10k miles?

you can always try, but they have instructions not to do the replacement until they have a real solution.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Contacted my local CJD service centre here in Brisbane, Australia. He acted as if he had no knowledge of it. But got him to book the vehicle in on the 7th. Told him I need a technician to drive with me so I can point out what is happening.

I am not very keen on pumping grease in there, dealers get very funny and start talking about voiding the warranty.

What about having a shorter jounce bumper? Maybe the shock is not getting the full range of travel and is bottoming out on the jounce.

I remember I had the same noise when I replaced the shocks on my Nissan Skyline. Had put Bilsteins on it, did not follow the instructions and left the jounce bumper long, its rattled and clunked like crazy. Adjusted the jounce bumper the clunk and rattle was gone.

I just do not want to touch the JGC sighting warranty.

That jounce is probably the cause of all the evil that is happening. In aero mode the jounce is squeezed so far that it is impossible for me to actually move the jounce.

There is only half an inch of shaft exposed in normal ride height. None of my other cars had jounce covering the shaft like this. That is why i assume these clunks happen over small high frequency bumps. Instead of the shocks absorbing the bumps, its transmitting to the car via the jounce. The jounce even though its needed, i think it is going against its purpose here. Just my theory.

would it be possible to shorten it, an see if it solve the issue? I don't mean a lot, just enough so it is not squeezed as much
