Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

No replacements for the Load leveling nivomat type shocks.

After further research, I have found that the X package on the JGC
are equipped with nivomat type shocks.
There are no after market companies that make these.

sorry

I think he said they were worth $38 each CND $
Update:

So it took about aprox 3+ weeks to get both shock mount kits in.

Took in in today.

Once the tech had both shocks removed and before he installed the new shock mounts,
I grabbed ahold of each shock, one had normal movement and the other one had no movement at all.
Exactly like in the video I posted of the original shocks that were replaced.
(video, page 15 of this thread if your interested)

So we decided to installed the new mount kit on the one good shock only and order in one new shock to replace the bad one.
We'll replace the other mount kit once the new shock comes in and if its mount is not updated yet.

So if your JGC feels like the back end gets a little skittish going over some bumps and or small bumps feel like your driving over cinder blocks (Icetech quote). You may have the same problem, so if your heading in to have your rear shock mounts replaced, ask your tech to check those shocks.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Did you notice a difference with the fix kit? Did it "fix" it? I had one shock replaced because of the rattle. It was quiet for a few weeks but now the sound is back. Rear suspension feels fine to me but not sure if one of the shocks is frozen. I'm guessing it would be pretty obvious if it were frozen. Dealer has kit on order for me, I really want this noise gone. While its not loud I can't stop hearing it. Makes my jeep feel cheap.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Sorry can't tell if it fixed the noise just yet, I think with that frozen shock and the old mount it might been a bit noisier then say if it just needed a mount.
but I'll update once I get that shock in.

At the time we thought that the frozen shock might hammer out the new mount/bushing kit so we're waiting till new the shock shows up.

Once there both in I could give you a good honest answer.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Got the new shock mounts installed today per the TSB. The noise I hear, going over small bumps sounds like a finger tapping on a drum head, is still there.

I went right back and talked to tech, he said new shock mounts are slightly different, my old ones looked compressed and he thought it made a difference when he test drove the Jeep afterward. Said shocks themselves were fine.

Maybe what I'm hearing isn't the shock mounts. It's pretty subtle and inaudible over about 25 mph. Guess I'll just tune it out.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

What TSB did they used. No longer shock mounts are the replacement. Now they change some bushing.

17-002-14 is the TSB #.

The bushings and the stamped steel mounts were changed.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Mine is still quiet after 3 months--of JUST having the shocks replaced and leaving the little metal cover off that sits-yes sits-on top of the shock mount (covers the bolt at the end of the shock) next to the body. The bushing kit would not fit my Overland as the piston rods on my shocks taper out to a bigger diameter which the bushings will not fit over. Bottom line the metal cover contributes to the noise and the mounting site on the body for the upper shock mount sucks! Would it not make more sense to have a shock mount fit flush against the body its entire length versus having part of the mount cantilevered out in space since the is no part of the body to fit against. Why hasnt Jeep fixed this--maybe retooling an assembly line and the domino effect of changing a desgin is more costly than a few of us Bubbas bitching, replacing some shocks and cutting up some rubber...hmmmmmmm??

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Looks like I'm late to the party

I have a 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo / Altitude and I have had my rear shocks replaced twice now. I just learned about the TSB and started a separate Thread called "TSB 17-002-14 : Upper Shock Mount Replacement: Who has had this done?"

TSB 17-002-14 : Upper Shock Mount Replacement: Who has had this done?

Wondering how the results are on guys that have specifically had that TSB done
