Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

I have had this done. Unfortunately it only lasted for a short while. The answer was and is to get rid of the Jeep. I have traded the junk in on a Toyota. Took a bath but got rid of it. The rear shock noise was only one of a host of problems with this vehicle. Brakes that fell apart a tick in the engine, leaking rear window, click in the running gear somewhere, failed blue tooth and on and on. My advice to potential Jeep buyers is don't walk away, run away. Poor, poor build quality from bumper to bumper. I was a lifelong Chrysler customer. That ended with the Jeep. Never again. Chrysler has lost a lifelong customer forever. If you want to know how the Chrysler resolution team responds you will be disappointed.

Sorry to hear. I stand by my Jeep even with the issues I have had. Love it.

Is there a way to remove this little metal cover in your driveway? Do you need to pull the wheel and remove the shock or can you get to it somehow through the trunk?

Bottom line the metal cover contributes to the noise and the mounting site on the body for the upper shock mount sucks! Would it not make more sense to have a shock mount fit flush against the body its entire length versus having part of the mount cantilevered out in space since the is no part of the body to fit against. Why hasnt Jeep fixed this--maybe retooling an assembly line and the domino effect of changing a desgin is more costly than a few of us Bubbas bitching, replacing some shocks and cutting up some rubber...hmmmmmmm??

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

You have to pull the entire shock. When you take it out, the cover is basically a loose piece of metal that sits over the top of the mount. When you take it off you will see where the top of the piston is bolted into the mount. I've never pulled a shock though I was close. Some of these guys are so good they can do one in about 30 mins. Takes me that long to find the extension cord for my air compressor.

Sorry I don't as we were doing it at the dealer. Its a small town dealership so you don't get the BS like you would at some. http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_1700214.pdf If you look at this tsb related to their latest "fix" with bushings you will see how the piston is bolted into the top of the mount. What they dont show u is the black cover that sits over that hiding the piston bushing and nut when you reinstall it.If you put the shock on with the top uncovered looking just like the picture in the TSB, that's what you want

Handn't posted my thoughts on this yet, so I guess I will now...it's not 100% gone. Kinda sucks, was expecting better results.

Thanks. Maybe I'll crawl under there and see if I can jam something into it.

Looks like the shock mount bolts would punch it between the mount and body.
