Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

fellas

I haven't really been reading/following this thread just wanted to update my personal issues with this problem

MY12 Laredo Altitude here with factory tow (load leveling shocks)

26500 miles here, just had my rear shocks replaced for the 3rd time under warranty and rear upper shocks mounts replaced for the 2nd time under warranty

So far so good... for now.

Honestly if this comes back again (these components fail) I'm going to buy an Eibach All Terrain lift and demand that Jeep install it

Keep us updated please. I'm out of warranty on my 14' and it's doing it again. The upper mount support is only $36 and I can replace myself but I don't want to have to do it every 8-10k miles. If that eibach kit works and will allow me to continue to tow, I'll do that.

Use Jeep Customer Care even if you are out of warranty. Chat with them - they helped me most recently - worth a shot

I plan on keeping everyone informed on here with my situation- the thing with me and my Jeep though, I don't put very many miles on it so if these components fail again it may be a while. I drive maybe 2-3 miles per day to and from work (pretty nice eh?) My warrenty is up next month and I asked these guys what happens if they fail again - they said "we'll cross that bridge if we have to"

Weeelllllll--might as well plan on buying the kit if that may help. My solution was to sell the freaking thing. If it's not a factory part=a dealer will not install it. This has been going on for 5 years. I think that fact bespeaks the intelligence of Chrysler engineers or more likely the cheap bass terds in management who have been given a fix by the engineers but won't do it because it costs too much. All they have to do is wait you out through warranty with cheap shocks etc from Mexico. What a bunch of hacks! They probably owe the government enough money for the government to not clamp down on these guys since it is not in their best interest. I had hoped Chrsyler would not trash Jeep and contaminate it with their cheap, moronic methodologies. Hope bashed. From here on just consider this as buying a 50K Durango! It really is sad...very very sad

I will respectfully disagree with the one point you made here 'not oem, dealer won't install'

I literally talked about this with Jeep customer care. "What if this replacement doesn't work out in the long run for the 3rd...4th time... can I have you guys install an aftermarket component" the answer was not "NO" it was more like we can explore those options if we get there.

I hope that turns out to be true for you but I fear the "we can explore" is the out--if they said "we'll do whatever it takes to make it right" I'd be shocked and amazed. I talked to the Vice President for Customer satisfaction" -may not be the correct title but-- he was a corporate guy in Auburn Hills" He assigned a corporate customer service rep to my case which was another way of wasting time doing things we had already done---at the dealer. So then their strategy was to start attacking the dealer. Chrysler was calling them up and giving them hell. I mean the dealer was begging me to bring it in again--which is a 70 mile trip--one way. I took it back one last time (this was about trip #10 in 25K miles). I watched as they were on the phone with a Chrysler engineer. In the end, service guy was told to leave the metal end cap on the shock off which worked for 5K miles before the clunk returned. That's when I gave up and just sold it. I figure life is too short to mess with this kind of crap. I spent 3 years in the battle ----thus my disdain and lack of confidence in Chrysler. I've had a dealer tell me they can't perform a repair that is not recognized as the factory specified repair. It make sense to me why it is that way. I have known some guys at a small town dealer who would do some things for me...that was a place where you knew you weren't gonna get overcharged and they would do it right even when it got to the point the repair was costing them money if they screwed up and I would tip the mechanic when something turned out being a lot more than they bargained for because I thought it was only fair.. It was good honest hand shake service. I knew they were would do whatever it took to fix something. They knew I appreciated and recognized their efforts. Maybe you have a place like that.

If there had been an aftermarket fix, I would have gladly paid for it just to stop the madness even though I had their top extended warranty. I hope for you that you prove me wrong and get your truck repaired. I really really do.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Trust me, I share your frustrations. During these 'fixes' (should we say temporary fixes?) I have left my Jeep at the dealer for weeks at a time and its not easy for me to get there especially with my work hours.

Its very annoying and beyond ridiculous they cannot figure this out. I'm literally going to demand they install aftermarket components if this returns - customer care already gave me 3 years of free oil changes (attached to my vin, can go to any Jeep dealer) because of this ordeal which is nice but doesn't fix the issue obviously.

My girlfriend and I are relocating out to Denver over the next few months and I plan on lifting this thing anyway which is why I am not to the point where you went (selling the car) because I feel as though aftermarket shocks/springs will solve this problem - I plan on doing that upgrade regardless. But - for the guys who simply want to enjoy their 40k+ vehicle as it came from the factory , not sure they are going to be satisfied.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Well. my rear shocks have started clunking in full force again.. BUT light at the end of this tunnel.. Last time i looked the only lift kit was the RRO one with the blocks, which doesn't replace any of the junk OEM parts.. After looking today and seeing the eibach kit for $700 (summit) i am going that route.. I was going to trade in my jeep with only 13k miles. But if this solved the suspension issues.. thats much better than swapping out a car i love other than a few issues Just wanted to mention it as an option to others also...

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Thanks. Keep us updated. Mine started again after driving on an unpaved rock road for 5 miles each way. What frustrates me is this "jeep" is meant to off-road but driving on flat rock road ruins the suspension components. The dealer is fixing again but now I'm outside of factory warranty and using extended which costs me $100. My rating of the jeep has gone from love to tolerate.

Keep us posted man. I would love to see a write-up and install pics of the Eibach kit.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Blow the dust off this thread

Just checking in for anyone who cares

28xxx miles and now my rear shocks are going out again . Anyone who has followed this thread knows - I have already had them replaced 3 times under warrenty. I am having the dealer confirm they are indeed going bad again on 10/10 to relay to Jeep customer care, I have a case open with them and suggested I simply get reimbursed for aftermarket shocks at this point.

Yes, I will be replacing the rear shocks for a 4th time now. 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo Altitude with factory tow (load leveling shocks in the back)

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

I'll keep following this thread. Had the shock cup "fix" per TSB replaced for the second time about one month ago. This time, I was out of warranty so the extended picked it up less the $100 deductible. Two days later went on a trip in which I towed for 1800 mi. round trip. Today I feel like it may be slowly creeping back. Maybe my imagination but it seems to be getting noisy again, not to the level of a rattle or "chuckle" as the TSB calls it but the early stages. My guess is the towing is accelerating it.
