Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Heard back from my dealer yesterday. They are going to replace the shocks. I have my doubts if this will be a permanent fix but I guess I will find out. I'll post the part numbers when I have them installed next week sometime.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Ok, I contacted the Jeep Customer Assistance and filed a ticket. she didnt have a clue on what to do. So I contacted A few engineer friends in Chrysler and explained the problem today, and within an hour I got a call back from the Jeep Customer Assistance Rep. Telling me that they are aware of the issue and will be Issuing a TSB for this in late December-Early January for a real fix!! They have been waiting to say anything because they dont have enough inventory, From what I was told.

I dropped my Jeep off to the dealership today on the way home so they can replace the struts again ( so i dont have to listen to that noise until the fix) and when the TSB comes out I will be back again to fix for good hopfully.

I still strongly suggest filing a claim so they have a record.

Good luck all

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Got my rear shock replaced with new part number # 68069680AC.
I guess the part is no longer in national back order. The problem has been fix for now. I will report in the next 700-1000 miles to let people know if the problem comes back then. Usually it does. But now is a new part #. Let's see.

Got mine back from dealer today, also *AC shocks. No noise at the moment but I'll post back if it returns. Might take me a couple of months to drive enough miles though.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Got my new 68096980AB shocks and 17023001 absorbers installed today. Finally, silence. The clunk is gone (for now). Drove it 20 miles over some bumpy roads and is quiet as new. Took nearly 5000 miles for the clunk to show up the 1st time. I will be waiting to see if it comes back. Dealer says information and TSB for the redesigned shocks is not in"the system" yet.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Had mine replaced with the original shocks, not the ACs, and the clunking is back after 1200 miles. Now my captains chair makes a clunking sound when I shift my weight to get in or out of the vehicle. And, for the record, I weigh 185 lbs.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

YES!!!!! Having the same rubbing creeking noise on my 2013 gc with only 3000 miles on it. I thought possibly suspension bushing didn't get greased at the factory ( remember the Durango ball joint issues) it's just been to cold and snowy to lay on the ground and spend any time on it last resort for me is that dealership it's so hard to tell where it's coming from when I get a warmer day (above freezing). I'm gonna place a go pro under there (unless someone beats me to it) maybe that will help my diagnosis.... Not sold on that shock valving deal my 2011 gc never made any noise like this and I'm sure it had the same shocks. Might be a while but ill let everyone know what I find out.

Jep, mine is back to after approx. 1500 miles. So bad te news that the new part number didn't solve the issue

Spoke with my dealer and they had some customer like me where they replaced the shocks with new ones, noise was gone but after a while they all came back with the noise returned. He promised me to get to CJD after new year to find out what the news on the 'fix' are.

@jbkb:if that is a rattle/clunking sound (mine didn't rub/squeak) than its highly probably to be the the shocks. I spent a couple hours looking for other issues, but my SM talked me into changing them as a customer satisfaction activity. He had doubts that it will be a final fix but wanted to help me. So much bad luck that it didn't work out.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Hey suther you know it's kinda hard for me to describe what the noise really is its so hard to pinpoint the sound from inside the jeep but today I was talking to a mecanic that I trust and he hints towards shocks as well. Still gonna try the go pro camera somethings gotta give because I can't listen to that every time we are driving. It's almost embarrassing when your driving your family and freinds around in a 45k + jeep and they keep asking what's that noise.

Unhappy Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Creaking/ squeaking/ clunking appeared at about 17,500 miles on my otherwise very good 2012 Overland. Sounds like a lot of people are having issues with the Quadra Lift on these WK2s. Took it to dealer last week, they said the left rear shock was "blown out," replaced it and returned vehicle to me. 100 miles later the sound is back. Really hoping Chrysler issues a TSB on this issue. It really is embarrassing to drive friends / colleagues around in a $45k vehicle with such a noise clearly audible. But the main concern is that something will break while driving and strand us, or worse.
