Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Well patience did not paid out. New Shocks and mounts are in back order.
They just called me from the service Dept that I will have to pick up my car tomorrow and that i will get a call as soon as those shocks/mounts land in their warehouse.
Almost 15 days with out a car just for that new call for nothing......
I am very disappointed with Jeep Co. my first Jeep ever and all this bull, I am going back to a Japanese product for sure after my lease is over.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Might as well add me to the list.
2012 5.7 Overland, Feb 12 build.
Clunking noise at low speeds from left rear. 16200 miles on the odo.

Getting a little leary of the build quality and reliability of this vehicle,

I've had more problems in the past year (remote start AC not working, squealing noise at intial cold start up--still not fixed, and now this clunking noise--all apparently well known problems) than I've had with my last 2 vehicles combined.

I was initially thrilled with my JGC, now less so....

I've had my Laredo X since August of 2012. It was a demo with 4k on it.

It wasnt even one month and I had it in for the rear struts. 5 months later and I'm ready for my 5th set of rear struts! Thank god this is a lease!!! I will never lease or buy another chrysler product again.

Shock Absorber 02151503 rear Left replaced with #68069680AD
Shock Absorber 02151502 rear Right replaced with #68069680AD

No noise for now. WIll drive and report back at 750-1000 miles from now.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

I agree. The noise started in mine almost immediately. 1000 miles or so. 43 large for a vehicle that sounds like it has high mileage two weeks after purchase is totally unacceptable. I like this ride overall with it's looks an amenities but quality may be suspect. I plan to become a thorn in the side of Jeep/Chrysler until this is resolved.

Took it to dealer last week, they said the left rear shock was "blown out," replaced it and returned vehicle to me. 100 miles later the sound is back. Really hoping Chrysler issues a TSB on this issue. It really is embarrassing to drive friends / colleagues around in a $45k vehicle with such a noise clearly audible. But the main concern is that something will break while driving and strand us, or worse.
After left shock was replaced with AD type, new shock leaked some type of clear fluid on garage floor and noise returned worse. Left shock again replaced with AD type as well as sway bar. Less than two months later... the creaking is back once again. It is definitely worse when weather is below 40 degrees F vs. warm. Exact same sound. So far: two service visits totaling four days in the shop. Visit number three to be scheduled soon. With SO MANY customers having these problems, why can't Chrysler get this fixed?

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Ok, Here we go again.....
Got my shocks replace a few weeks ago and now the clunking has return.
This car is a piece of s---. Jeep is going to hear it this week for sure. I will be placing a complaint with the Lemon Law and with the BBB. I don't want this car they will have to buy it back.
I have taken my car 5 times for the same thing and not once they have solve the problem for good. Enough of my good will time to act.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

maybe has nothing to do with your problem, but give it a try if you can:
I have a 2007 limited (HEMI) GC, that had a horrible creaking/squeaking at the back, I could even heard it inside the cabin when I was parking or going slowly or fast through small bumps/holes.
I always though it was the rear suspension or bump stops, or something related to the suspension of the jeep. I was WRONG.
I bought SRT8 seats and replaced them, when I took out the REAR seats, I saw the holes of the bolts that hold the rear back part of the seat (upper) and they go all the way (I mean, you can see outside of the car!!)
Anyways, I took the old seat, and before I bolted the new seat, I cleaned the bolts with something similar to wd40 (rust-off is called actually) to help me bolting them back with the wrench (hand wrench, not power wrench), and also I sparyed that into the holes and near the holes. I bolted them tight as my arm had forces to (and torque).
Since then, I never had a single squeak/creak again.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Here is what I am wondering. I don't tow, but the Jeep I wanted and the GC my dealer found had the tow package on it with the self load leveling shocks. I'm wondering if I could get Chrysler to just take off the tow hitch and add the shocks found on the non tow package Jeeps. Is it more involved than that? I don't tow and the tow hitch has never been used? I dont want to continually have to have the shocks replaced. I wish I had paid more attention to this forum before I bought my 12' as this clunking is driving me nuts LOL. Thanks any input is appreciated.

Re: Rearend or rear suspension clunk/creak

Either we are getting used to it, or the problem disappeared on it's own for us? We had the clunking shocks for the first year. This winter, the problem seemed to disappear. I read that the "clunk" seemed to go away during colder months for some. Now that it's warmer, we still don't hear it. All I hear is tire noise when going over bumps.

Will work, but you have to change the springs as well, because the SLS springs are softer. SLS and spring built a 'unit' with the SLS taking some if the spring force.

What shock version do you have? With my first pair the noise didn't vanish within 6000mls.
