Re: Rearlift Froze and Won't Open

Ive had an Acadia with a similar feature on the rear lift gate. From time to time mine has been closed improperly or had an obstruction or some other event that caused some issues.

I've just operated mine manuallly and it has been back to normal on the next use....despite some wierd noises and hang ups. Just tug on it and see if you can operate it. It's in warranty....right?

OH...and my new Jeep hit I status.

Anyways after work I went to open the hatch and it would try to open automatically and it didn't. It struggled then locked automatically. I tried several times and the same thing happened. I can't even force open it without the machine taking over and closing it. It was only when I pulled underground that it opened up. This is a big no no. It's not even that cold. We hit -25 and colder and I need to be able to open my hatch.

This shouldn't happen, and if so there should be a manual override that lets me deactivate the power hatch so I can open up the back manually. How embarassing is it when you can't open your trunk to load groceries? Seriously.

This should be recalled, big time. We had no freezing rain or anything. It was just frozen. If I washed the car and water froze and so on then fine...however this is not the case as my car had no water that melted and froze as it was very cold the entire day.
yeah i live in edmonton too and im having the same problem man its bull shit i had to throw my groceries in the back seat... whatever though hopefully by the time the srt8 comes out they'll have fixed all the bugs this car has because im going to trade in my overland.

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I like to put some silicone spray on all the rubber door seals before each winter to prevent any potential freezing/sticking of the seals to the door jambs. It has always worked great for me and the silicone prolongs the life of the rubber seals.

Re: Rearlift Froze and Won't Open

I had the same problem again today but this time I noticed it's just snow/ice build-up on the exterior of the car between the bumper and the rear gate. I chipped it off with my window brush (don't recommend), tried the door again and voila! it opened right up. For some reason if you drive the car in snow, it tends to build up lots in that bottom area.

I don't know about you guys, but I HATE it when the swirling action causes buildup in my bottom area.
