Re: Recall notices for instrument cluster

I've got my note on Tuesday but I will do it at the same time as my Oil Change, in another week or two.

Speaking of which - I have 20% life left in the oil with synthetic oil and 3200 miles driven. That seems to be...ridiculously low mileage out of the synthetic, which I had hoped to push to 5000 miles. For comparison, I change it on my turbocharged Subaru every 3000 miles as the extra lubrication challenges really damage the oil - it becomes darker after 500 miles.

The vehicle does not differentiate between 'real' oil and synthetic when determining % left.

I'm not sure of Chrysler's position, but Acura specifically states that either type of oil should be changed at the same interval.

The system has no clue as to whether or not you're using synthetic or regular oil. All it does is look at various parameters such as temperature (in many ways but most importantly oil temp), exposure time, engine run time, idle time, time at various rpm ranges, load while in those ranges, and so forth. It uses all that to make an estimate as to what your expected oil life is.

Besides...unless you're beating the crap out of your engine or are having situations where oil temp is high a lot of the time, the biggest reason for changing the oil is due to contamination, not oil breakdown. Oil breakdown does occur (somewhat slower with a good synthetic), but contamination from blowby gasses, fuel, and such happen much faster (again, unless you're beating the crap out of your engine in which case oil breakdown becomes more prevalent) and necessitate oil changes.

Got my notice in the mail yesterday and dropped off this morning along with my first free oil change and tire rotation. Haven't had any real problems so far and have 5,200 miles in six months since purchase. Dealer offers free oil changes and tire rotations for the first three years.

Re: Recall notices for instrument cluster

Mentioned it in one of the other threads, I had the recall done while I had my oil changed this week. Dealer said it went smoothly, I haven't noticed any changes since (expected)...

Re: Recall notices for instrument cluster

Got my recall notice yesterday. Need to get it back to the dealership anyways. Already had the TSB for transmission performed, but now the rough shifting is back, especially on the 2-3 shift.

Why is that? It appears the 2014's are spending more time in the shop than on the road.

Re: Recall notices for instrument cluster

Mine has been flawless. 8500 miles and not a single issue, early build too.

I hope you are keeping track of the problems and who is posting them. I'm not saying there aren't problems. But, there are people who report the same problem in every thread, sometimes more than once.

It might not be quite as bad as it appears.

Jassie...you'll have to find a forum with nothing but good things to say about the 2014s this forum gives both sides as there are some here who've had issues and some who haven't,this isn't exclusive to just the Chrysler brand..all automaker have recalls and TSBs.

I pop in with a, "Mine hasn't seen the dealer since I took delivery in April", every once in a while, just to let folks know there are trouble free JGCs out there. I got the recall notice, but I'm not having the recall problem, so it can wait for my oil change to get it done.
