Check again... when you press the Start button the first thing that happens is "LOCK" then it starts.

I stand corrected. That's what I get from reading the manual. I just tried it and you are correct. It will remote start if it is unlocked.

I can see this a something we should be aware of. Thanks for the information.

Yukon-- IndyBob and I are talking about something related but different. The vehicle may lock automatically when remote start is triggered (I haven't tested that), but it is possible to use remote start even if the vehicle is unlocked at first.

I have been learning about this vehicle through a mixture of documentation and trial and error (with a slight priority on the latter).

Absolutely correct, you are.....truck can be unlocked and remote started. If you get a chance watch the tail lights..blink twice, first blink...Lock....second blink....Start. Trial and error method

ps: i wish it would stop snowing around here....i am getting tired of washing this beauty! ! ! !

You are correct. I just re-read the manual and here is what I found. I am not sure where I got the bad info from.

All of the following conditions must be met before the
engine will remote start:
Shift lever in PARK

Doors closed

Hood closed

Liftgate/Flipper Glass closed

Hazard switch off

Brake switch inactive (brake pedal not pressed)

Ignition key removed from ignition switch

Battery at an acceptable charge level

RKE PANIC button not pressed

I hear you. I'm gonna hit the self-serve bay today myself. Taking a road trip to Charlotte NC on Friday and they have more snow than we do here in DC!

Re: Remote Start

Does anyone know if you can shut off the engine using the key fob?

I think if you used remote start to start it and then press remote start button one time again while engine is still running and you are outside the vehicle the engine will stop. Other than this case I don't think you can stop the engine with key fob.

Not mine. I just tried it. If the care is unlocked the first thing it does is lock the car then start the engine.

Also if you hit the remote start button 2x the car will shut off.

I don't see this as a flaw in any way shape of form, just something to be aware of. I don't think I'll ever have a need to do remote start to warm her up while she's in the garage because we don't get that cold here. And if I do I'll obviously put the door up first...unless my springs have snapped again.
Everyone should have multiple CO (Carbon Monoxide) detectors in their homes (garage, in or near bedrooms etc.).

You know, Dan, as obvious as it sounds, I never thought of putting a CO detector in the garage. I have them elsewhere in the living quarters. Now with even a .00001% chance of a remote start mishap, it makes a ton of sense. Thx.
