And you should have them interconnected too.....either wired or wireless so that when one goes off they all go off.

Down here in South Florida we had five (yes, five!) teens die from CO poisoning this year at a motel. I understand the motel had individual garages with living space above like townhomes (supposedly popular for cheating spouses since their cars wouldn't be visible???). They left the car running and all took a nap at the same time or something and died.... Very sad.

I'd rather be safe and have a few false alarms from the garage then have a tragedy. Plus, any false alarms from the garage would remind people of the dangers in other settings too where they aren't installed.

Re: Remote Start

just on side note, if you remote start the Jeep, get in, and press on the throttle without pushing the start/stop button, it will shut off.

Re: Remote Start

The new remote starter is one of the big steps back. Half the time I get out to the jeep its not started. I also ran into a problem when cleaning out the back if you remote start it when your in the jeep it seems to disable the fob in the jeep. I jumped in the front after I was done cleaning the back and it said no key detected and then alarm started to go off when I went to get out and had to get out lock doors and then unlock doors get in and then start jeep to turn off alarm.

Yeah but I have a feeling putting one in the garage will cause a lot of false alarms. I mean everytime I start my car especially a cold start first thing in the morning the exhaust smell is pretty significant since the car is running very rich at first. I can imagine that stupid detector going off everytime you pull your car out in and out of the garage. Plus carbon monoxide detectors are not necessary in the garage. And for what its worth the first thing I will do to my Jeep is turn the honk for remote start off. Who wants to hear their annoying horn honk a few times when you remote start your car. I dont! Thats the first feature I disabled when I bought my 2008 SRT8. That along with honk on lock. Why cant american cars follow what companies like Lexus do on their cars and make a nice beep tone when you lock or unlock.

CO is odorless so it is hard to know how much CO is given off in situations like that. I'm a bit paranoid about stuff like that since I've heard a lot stories....CO may be a bigger danger to life for many then fire if you live in a new construction home.....few people nationwide die in new construction fires (new in last ten-twenty years or so) but they are built so air tight that CO can sneak up and kill you in your sleep.

Better to put one in the garage and see if it is an annoyance or not. Seems to me that Jeep and others could have a CO detector that if you use the remote start and the CO concentration gets to X level it turns off the vehicle (only in effect if use remote start).

Yeah I mean I see what your saying and all, but for me a detector in the garage would be a bit much. I live in a relatively new house that I bought new in 2007 and they have CO and smoke detectors hardwired in all hallways and bedrooms and I am more than confident thats plenty. I have owned a few cars with factory remote start including my latest one a 08 GC SRT8 and never once accidentically remote started it. Ofcourse I would never use that feature anyway if the car was parked in the garage, but I do not see this being an issue whatsoever.

Re: Remote Start

How close if your great room to your garage? Just saying, if you take a nap on the couch.... Remote start has the potential to cause CO problems....just sayin'. We all evaluate risks differently....

The remote start system only allows the car to run once for 15 minutes then it turns it off automatically and cannot be restarted with the FOB until it is started manually. Hopefully that is too little time for most owners homes to fill with CO.

It can be started 2x, but if you click again when its already started you do not get a second start after the 15 min.

Re: Remote Start

ok, I think I get it. I stopped at the grocery store on the way home this evening. It has been cold and snowing like crazy. I opened the hatch remotely and then tried to start the engine....no can do. I wonder if it works by remotely stsarting the engine first and then remotely opening the hatch.

Yes, if you remote start the Jeep first then you can remote unlock or open the power hatch.

Good to know.....15 minutes might be too much depending on your house but good that it wouldn't go all night...
