Re: Remote Start Climate Control

When I tested mine, it was 37 degrees outside, heat did not turn on with remote start. the 80 and 40 degree lines are external tempatures for which the comfort zone uses to determine whether or not to turn on the comfort controls (ie heated seats, steering wheel, cooling seats...) I had technician in the car with me and he even said that it should turn on based on your last HVAC setting and the internal tempature of the car. The most crazy thing about this, is that the HVAC does turn on when you physically open the drivers side door after doing a remote start.

That's not true. The ambient temps. you mention are only necessary to activate the "Remote Start Comfort System" if selected in the EVIC.

The HVAC system, if left on or in auto, should operate upon remote start regardless of ambient temperature.

Remote Start Comfort Systems — If Equipped
When remote start is activated, the heated steering
wheel, and driver heated seat features will automatically
turn on in cold weather. In warm weather, the driver
vented seat feature will automatically turn on when the
remote start is activated. These features will stay on
through the duration of remote start or until the ignition
switch is turned to the ON/RUN position.
The Remote Start Comfort System can be activated and
deactivated through the Electronic Vehicle Information
Center (EVIC). For more information on Remote Start
Comfort System operation refer to “Electronic Vehicle Information
Center (EVIC)/Customer-Programmable Features
(SETUP)” in “Understanding Your Instrument Panel”.

Re: Remote Start Climate Control

Mine wouldn't turn ax on when hot out so I had my dealer perform the tsb. Hopefully that makes a difference.. Won't know for a couple months tho since its cold now. I will be using remote start this morning so hopefully the heat is on and the wheel and seats are hot too!

Re: Remote Start Climate Control

I haven't played with it too much, but so far it appears my 2013 limited suffers this same issue. It's troublesome because as soon as I touch the handle and the door unlocks, the HVAC fires up right where I had left it previously, as if it were written into the software to function that way...? Some engineer couldn't possibly have thought that was a good way to do it right!? Anyway, another annoyance is that it was 40 degrees this morning so I thought I would check the Remote Start Comfort features, but for the almost ten minutes it was running, I could see the temp in the EVIC say 50 degrees? Any ideas why the thermometer would be off by ten degrees?

Re: Remote Start Climate Control

Today I brought back my 2012 GC to the dealer service dept to perform another (Compressor re-flash? as recommended by Jeep tech dept) attempt to fix this, since the TSB # 24-002-12 did not do anything. This second try had zero results. Again i had the technician in the car with me while we tested and demonstrated that it did not work again and agreed this is not how Remote Start should be working and agreed it is strange that the HVAC does turns on once you open the drivers side door (after starting with Remote Start)
Since there was nothing else the sercie dept could do based on what Chrysler/Jeep is telling them, they wanted me to open up another Support ticket and escalate. My service Dept also say they would reach out to Chrysler Jeep to figure out next steps.

This is so so wrong and frustrating.
Has anyone had luck with the TSB fixing this problem?

Re: Remote Start Climate Control

hi all,
I wound up talking quite a bit with my Jeep Service Technician who was simultaneaously was in communication with Jeep Technical Team. My Service technician was kind enough to share this, Jeep 2012 Engineering Remote Start Operation details. It brings to light many things. I have attached it here for everyone to review.
In my case, the TSB does seem to have corrected the heat ON with Remote Start. We were not able to notice it while testing it while sitting in the car as the engine was cold. I have since tested it on 30 degree days and we can now feel it come on as the engine warms up. We were unable to test the AC with remote start because the tempature is cool here and the inside cabin tempature is not warm enough for the the AC to kick on for the target temp of 72 degrees (i keep my Controls at AUTO). One glaring thing to notice is that the HVAC lights will never be on during remote start. They will turn on as soon as you open the drivers side door. The technician is confident the TSB fixed the AC on during remote start, so only time will tell. I will keep my fngers crossed for JUne 2013.

For the record, my 2012 JGC Overland's remote works as it should. When it's cold, it starts heating and it turns the driver's seat heater to the low position. When it's hot, the A/C kicks on and the ventilated seat is set to the low position.

Anyone who tries to tell you that it designed to operate any differently is full of it.
My 2012 JGC Overland's remote start turns on the steering wheel heater, the driver's seat heater to high and the rear defroster when it is cold. I have not tried it when hot. why yours turns on the seat to low and mine to high is a mystery. Also, why does it turn on my rear defroster??

Is there a way to modify the features that are turned on when you remote start. --- in a service menu perhaps.??

Re: Remote Start Climate Control

Thank you for your reply. I also read the info you offer including the "additional information" on the remote start. No where does it talk about how to select the features that you want to run when you use remote start.

I must have misunderstood your question. You either select on or off for the remote start comfort system. You don't get to choose individual items.

Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Remote Start Climate Control

Has anyone in any year WK2 been able to get their remote start to turn on the HVAC system BEFORE opening the door. I'm not asking about the remote start comfort system responding to set temps and activating cooled/heated seats. I have been to the dealership and they told me that my system is working properly but if i leave my heater or AC on and then remote start my car the heater or AC will only turn back on after opening the door, I can't imagine why anyone would design a system to work this way.

Does anyone have any insight into this, have jeeps always behaved like this? Do all Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge products perform this way? I've had other remote start systems and they worked as you'd expect where when remote starting the car the HVAC system turns on wit the same settings you left them on.
