Remote Start Climate Control

Have a strange issue. The AC compressor will not engage when the GC is started with remote start. The weird thing is, once you open the door, that engages the compressor and within 30 seconds the air starts to cool off. Tried in manual mode and auto climate control mode to no avail. The dealer states that it's a known issue on some GC's, but there is no fix. Anyone have this issue at all? It's annoying that I purchased a vehicle with features I can't use.

One more obscenely frustrating day at the dealer. I left my Jeep with them about 11am, with the part number and part description, and was told "Ok, we'll call you in a couple hours". I heard nothing from them (they close at 5:30pm) until I called them at 5:28pm. I was told "We contacted Chrysler and we're just waiting to hear back, we had expected to keep your vehicle overnight, that's why we didn't feel the need to call you"
....
Are you serious??
They expected to keep my Jeep overnight WITHOUT telling me anything, and they still haven't fixed any problem whatsoever. This is freaking crazy. So now I'm taking my Jeep back, and they said "Chrysler will call you tomorrow with an answer".
Guess we'll wait and see.

I'm in a similar situation with mine.

Just hang in there, they will figure it out.

One week ago when mine was in the same thing happened, they did keep it overnight and the next day Chrysler said to replace the TIPM. They ordered one and I am scheduled for TIPM replacement tomorrow. Even though I have since furnished the part number (fix per Primerate), they want to first replace the TIPM per Chrysler. If that doesn't fix it, they will again contact Chrysler and ask about replacing the HVAC Control.

I think my dealers service dept. is doing the best they can. They have to listen to what Chrysler says to do. I have a feeling the TIPM replacement will not solve my issue. If it does, great. If it doesn't they will most likely go with the part number I suggested.

It is pain to make several trips in order to solve the problem, but that's because we are the first to report this issue. Eventually, others with the same problem will have an easier time.

My dealer has been good and even offered to come to my house to pick up my vehicle. Yeah, I wish it wasn't this complicated but I can't ask for more from my dealer.

Good Luck,

Joe

This issue, along with one or two others, are on my list. But, I'm going on a road trip next week and can't afford for them to screw something up that would keep me from having my Jeep on time for the trip. So I will be dealing with this mid July.

Update: The dealer replaced the TIPM and said the A-C and ventilated seat now work with remote start. I would think they should know if it's fixed or not, but I will confirm when I pick it up this evening and test it myself.

So possibly there is more than one part that can cause this issue???

Another update: After replacing the TIPM the ventilated seat now comes on upon remote start. I'm not convinced the A-C is working as it should. The fan blows at low setting even though the fan was left on its highest speed before last shutdown. The green LED A-C indicator light does not come on after remote start until I enter the vehicle and press the start button.

I would like to know if others with remote start have the fan running on high speed and if the green LED indicator lights up.

I also seem to have one new issue. If I start without remote start, the climate control defaults to defrost position. Does this sound normal?

Thanks,

Joe

Sorry for being late to the party.
2012 Overland, Feb 12 build.
Been in the 90's the past few days...turn on vehicle with remote start, seat cooler is on low, fan blowing like crazy--no cold air until I press start button.

Update: AC light turns on as soon as door handle is touched, otherwise fan is just blowing.

Mine is also a Feb. 2012 build. Overland Summit & does exactly as yours upon remote start..... ventilated seat on low, fan blowing on high w/no cold air until I touch the start button.

So my dealer left me a voicemail today and said "We have a call in to a Jeep Service Tech Specialist, and he is going to set up an appointment with you within the next two weeks to discuss the issues with your Jeep"
I guess I can be happy they at least are giving me somebody with some know-how, but my problem still remains untouched. Guess I'll keep you guys updated about the appointment.

so I am having the same issue with my new jeep - 2012 overland summit

I know this feature worked before as I remember the day I picked it up it would do it in the parking lot of the dealer and then one day I started the car while it was in the parking lot and the car was cool when I got there. Now it will not do it. I do notice some of the things mentioned through the thread. Fan will blow but compressor will not kick on until I walk up and go to open door. Hopefully there will be some resolution to this. I will have to take the car over to the dealer and see what they say.

My Overland Summit is a Jan. 2012 build and had the same exact A-C problem, along with the ventilated seat not turning on with remote start. Replacement of the TIPM corrected both problems. The green LED indicator for the A-C still doesn't come on until I push the start button. Of course in auto mode the green LED will never illuminate.

If I leave the A-C on and the fan on high speed, it will remote start with the A-C compressor on and the fan is blowing at a reduced speed. If I leave the climate control set in auto mode, it still works and it seems as if the fan will blow at a higher speed depending on how hot it is.

I'm happy this problem was resolved and it only took two visits to the service department. Too bad Chrysler can't figure out why the FCW doesn't work after three visits.

Hi, guys. Finally making my first post -- to say I've been watching this thread closely and appreciate the info everyone's providing.

At the beginning of May, we bought a 2012 Overland, built in mid-March, and we seem to be having the same problem. A week or two ago, I used the remote start for the first time. I got involved in something else and actually let it run the full 15 minutes, until it shut off automatically. I noticed it didn't seem particularly cool when I got in, but I blamed it on the super-hot day.

I've tested the remote start a couple of times since, to the same results everyone else is reporting. Fan running full blast, seat cooling on high, but the compressor isn't coming on until I open the door.

Planning to keep a continued eye on the thread and will post my results when I finally take it to the dealer.

Just got off phone with chrysler. The girl did not want to listen, just wanted to close the ticket. Fed me the "this is normal behavior" line. I told her other GC's work fine, and my dealer even acknowledged there is a problem, but she just said oh well and closed the ticket. Un f'ing believable.

Hi I came upon this site while looking into the same problem with my 2012 Durango SXT with remote start. I am having same issues since its technically same vehicle. When I use my remote start my fan blows on low with no cooling effect to air at all, No light on the AC controls (digital) and no compressor kicking in until I insert key (since i dont have the push button start)

As soon as i put key in I can feel air getting cold. I am taking to dealership tomorrow with info from this thread...I will report back what their findings are.
