But...........why don't you WK2 guys who are complaining make yourself useful to the forum? Enough with these nonsense threads. Its ridiculous and its time some of you actually DO something with your Jeeps.

This is an enthusiast car club, if you came here to bitch about useless information that WE PEOPLE already know about command starts, then its time to hit the bricks.

Our moderators put their hard money into keeping this site running for a reason, I would hate to see that the only point of this site is because several WK2 owners came to cry about (cup holders, windshield wipers, command starts, floor mats, etc etc.)

Enough is enough guys, make yourself useful on the forum, or stay off of it.
If you don't like it then stay in one of the 55 other forums on the site!

Telling someone to tow the line, as you see it or "stay off the site" takes arrogance to an entirely new level and is totally out of line and I don't give a damn how long you've been here or how many posts you have.

Oh, and I'm sure the moderators dedicate an inordinate amount of their time to organizing and policing the site but the majority of the people posting in the WK2 section are PAID members, which is where a lot of the hard earned money you speak of is coming from.

I, for one, think this is a great site and the moderators are doing a fantastic job of keeping threads in the proper sections, riding herd on members who occasionally get off track and in general making this a great site for both new and long time Jeep enthusiasts.

I couldnt have said it better!

Kyle - Maybe you should stay out of the WK2 forum if you have nothing positive to contribute! Also, Please do not speak for "the owners" or "the moderators" because "we" def dont share the same views as you! Oh and for your last sentence...Maybe you should take your own advice!

Re: Remote Start Issue - I think it is dangerous?

Ignorance ≠ Toughness.

Anywooooooo, put a CO detector if your garage if you have concerns or kids. End of story. Risk is very small (it is a legit concern though...what if it didn't shut off after 15 minutes too?) but almost all building codes require CO detectors in new construction for a reason (even after cost benefit analysis).

No biggie...no reason for people to get all heated up over it all. If you're not interested in the topic, then don't read the thread and certainly don't post a reply...simple as that.

Re: Remote Start Issue - I think it is dangerous?

This makes me LOL...

I respect your concerns, but these fobiks have been used for a couple years now and this is the first time I have heard this complaint.

Also someone mentioned there is no point in having your car idle for more than 5 minutes... all I have to say is during the winter, the neighbor that lives behind my house gets in her car, starts it, and the foot goes to the floor and she is bouncing off the rev limiter for a couple minutes to warm her car up... People do stupid things and a car idling for 15 minutes is not NEARLY as bad as starting a frozen motor and bouncing it off the rev limiter (FYI, it takes an srt8 charger about 19 minutes from start to thermostat opening starting at about 60 degrees not that I did a labscope trace of the coolant temp sensor in college or anything).

Furthermore, these bicycle comments, and horse comments... come on guys... not cool. Those are still FAR to dangerous, I heard hoverround will trade straight across (overland for forerunner) if you guys are interested, I can promise that you that your pocket starting will be a thing of the past...

Re: Remote Start Issue - I think it is dangerous?

I bought a new Jeep Grand Cherokee about a month ago and already have had it start while in a closed garage when I accidently pressed the key fob twice when i was trying to carry some articles in my pocket. I was near the garage and heard it honk and when I checked it the engine was running. Does anyone know if there is a way of disconnecting the remote start without disconnecting the other features of the key fob?

Re: Remote Start Issue - I think it is dangerous?

I have not heard of one short of surgery (cutting out the start button). Just don't put anything else in your pocket that can put pressure on the buttons. Cell phones are notorious button pushers.

Re: Remote Start Issue - I think it is dangerous?

Like all things new, it comes with a conditioning process. When phones were first offered in homes, most said no.... I don't want something in my house that will ring and disrupt my routine. My point is that the good out ways the bad; the phone became a very important part of our life. Remote start does not rank there but it does provide a comfort.
In conclusion, I agree; should be a feature that could be turned off as everyones lifestyle is different.

Re: Remote Start Issue - I think it is dangerous?

I wish I had remote start, great on hot days. The Australian models dont even have this option.
Some obscure Australian design rule not allowing this feature.

Re: Remote Start Issue - I think it is dangerous?

I just got my Grand Cherokee a few weeks ago and got the remote start option because it was already on the closest model I wanted. Since my vehicle is mostly garaged in a mild climate, I really have no use for the option. Last weekend as I was up on a ladder cleaning a ceiling fan, I must have inadvertently pressed the magic button twice against the ladder (in my pocket) per the manual. Lo and behold, awhile later I found my beloved GC running in my closed garage. I was furious!!! I opened the key fob as if to change the battery and removed the tiny black disk under the remote start function. Since I left the other fob as is, I now can enjoy it either way. This is a perilous option (imho).

Re: Remote Start Issue - I think it is dangerous?

I'm still in the camp that the remote start is a good thing. Sure there are potential issues as there are with so many devices, but on inclement days (especially very hot ones) it is incredibly beneficial to start the car 5 minutes early. Never fully appreciated the feature until I had it.

Now if only I could calculate idling fuel consumption per minute

So you don't have remote start or recovery hooks. Is there anything else they don't let you have down under? Back seats? Door handles? Cup holders?
