Re: Remote Start \Rear window defroster?

To add more confusion... I tried it again this morning after it sat all night and the rear defrost did NOT come on. No rhyme or reason to this at all.

Re: Remote Start \Rear window defroster?

I believe the defroster will only come on in remote start mode when the outside temp is below a certain temp. Cause I know in the cold season when I'd start my jeep it would come on automatically when it was really cold out and when it was moderately cold it wouldn't. but My remote start mode will only keep the jeep running for 15 min and I can only remote start it 2 tomes before I have to key start it.

Re: Remote Start \Rear window defroster?

maybe it has something to do with the a/c on when the remote start is activated? like if its really hot outside and the a/c is blasting it might get cold enough to fog up the rear window? maybe that's why it activates... did you check the owners manual?

During testing I look through the window and remote start it, so the vehicle does not have time to cool down from the AC being on. The defrost will turn on right when the jeep starts, so the temp inside is still 90-100F. Today I went to lunch and tried it and the defrost came on... This morning when it was somewhat cool out it did NOT come on, so I'm thinking something is not right. Keep in mind that I have manual heating \ cooling so nothing turns on or off by itself with the exception being the rear defroster. I could not find any info in manual. There is no consistency on how the rear defroster operates.

Re: Remote Start \Rear window defroster?

Hello,

Have you checked if it is related to how the mode select is left when shut down?

Defrost/Floor mix, Floor, Vents etc. I read that with defrost/floor mix on the rear defog comes on automatically. Maybe this is the source of your problem. If you alter the mode from time to time it may explain the apparent inconsistent behaviour.

I've been leaving the AC on and running it through the main vents. I have not had to mess with defrost-vent settings due to it being so hot out.

Re: Remote Start \Rear window defroster?

My thoughts on why the rear defrost comes on when it's 98F outside are:
When you've run the AC for a while, the air is not only cold but it's dehumidified. When you turn the car on again after a while, the AC does not immediately dehumidify the air so sometimes the windows fog up temporarily when drawing in humid outside air (or condensed air from the heat exchanger) into the vehicle. In winter, the AC (with heat on) can help prevent fogging windows too and on many vehicles AC defaults to "on" when front defrost is selected.

Perhaps they set the rear defrost to go on as a default for convenience to prevent any rear fogging. This would only make sense if they also programmed the front defrost duct to activate too and if it doesn't, then the rear defrost going to on is simply due to strange programming. That is one thing that bothers me about all the automatic "convenience" features: it makes it inconvenient for me to figure out why something is doing what it does when I don't need it.

Re: Remote Start \Rear window defroster?

For what it's worth, I used my remote start yesterday for the first time. It was about 45 outside. The car turned on the heat, defrosters and the heated seat as well.

Re: Remote Start \Rear window defroster?

My rear defrost is inop. Found fuse F36 blown. Haven't replaced it yet. I might try artificially cooling the temperature sensor to see what the effect is on the rear defrost with remote start but is has been way too hot here to to it "properly"
