removal of lower front fascia 2011 Grand Cherokee

Hello:
New member here and could use some help. I bought front tow hooks for my 2011 Grand Cherokee, and decided to try installing myself. I've been over the instructions, located all the bolts and plastic buttons/clips needed to remove the lower fascia. I don't quite understand what it is I am supposed to do next to get the fascia to fall free. I removed the lower pan, freed up the secondary support piece under the fascia, and removed four 1/4 turn buttons that hold the corners of the fascia in place. The instructions show a small box with what looks like a tool or pry of some kind pointing at the top edge of the fascia above the rubber-like section. This part of the fascia is still in place and refuses to move or come free. Can anyone tell me what I do next to get the fascia to fall free? It's still firmly in place along the top edge all across the front, but lower corners are free.
Many thanks.

First off I think there are 7 1/4 turn fasteners that need to be removed not just 4 to remove the lower air dam.

This is from the owners manual
NOTE:
Prior to off-road driving, remove the front air
dam to prevent damage. The front air dam is attached to
the lower front fascia with seven quarter turn fasteners

and can be removed by hand.

Re: removal of lower front fascia 2011 Grand Cherokee

Thanks, IndyBob:
I actually did already have all 7 quarter-turn buttons out. There are 3 along the central inner fascia support, and two more at each wheel well. What was stumping me was trying to figure out how the upper edge of the lower fascia came apart and was released from the grille. This morning I found that the fascia edge has a series of little plastic 'arrowheads' that slip into notches in the lower edge of the grill. They're located about every 4 inches all along the groove between the two parts. I had to work away at them carefully with a flat screwdriver to free them and pry loose. Too bad the Jeep instructions for installing tow hooks don't say anything about this. Several improvements could be made.

Anyway, my new tow hooks are now installed, my pieces are back together, and I don't even have any parts left over. Took about 3 hours for a klutz with only minimal tools and bare-bones knowledge. The Jeep dealer would have charged me $300 for labor on top of the $220 they charge for the parts. It was the lesson learning as well as saving.

Thanks.

No kidding. They clearly intended those instructions for the technicians, not the owners.

What do you expect? These aren't British!

Busgrat, glad you got it done. I ordered the Off Road package so my skids and hooks were already there.

I haven't attempted to take off the lower air dam yet but I understand it is not easy. I going to have to soon so I know how to do it before my Moab trip in June.

Re: removal of lower front fascia 2011 Grand Cherokee

I just picked my Tow hooks up today. Don't you love it... spend $40k on a new car with a Tow package and you don't get Tow Hooks...

At least my dealer hooked me up with 15% over cost pricing (employee pricing is 10% over cost) and no S&H.

I'll be pulling the front off shortly if we get a good weather day. The Tow Hooks and OEM Overland Grille will be going in.

It is a pain!! You have to pry with your fingers to get the clips off and there are a lot of them.

Sure am sorry to hear that removal of that air damn is such an issue. This 73 year old doesn't do well down on the ground these days. Towing behind our motor home takes us to some exotic places ..

Good reason to have Quadra-Lift! You're not near Mitchell Co. by any chance?

Re: removal of lower front fascia 2011 Grand Cherokee

This is an old post but I thought I'd add a tip. I removed my air dam to go off road and it was not the easiest thing getting the top unclipped from the bumper. Before I put the air dam back on, I put a LITTLE bit of petroleum gel (Vaseline will work too) on each of the 12 tabs on the top and they popped back in without a problem ... should help next time it has to be removed.
