Reverse/Drive Shift indicator light blinking?

Hello guys, newbie here (to Jeeps and the forum). I recently got a GC Limited 75th Anniversary and there's something odd that has happened twice within the last month. The other day I was trying to park and switched from D to R. When I depressed the gas pedal I noticed that the vehicle wouldn't move; it was as if it's on neutral (the engine was revving but seemed like the transmission didn't engage).
When I checked the shifter to see if I had put it in neutral by mistake, I realized that it was on Reverse but the R light was blinking. So I switched it back to neutral, then reverse again and it worked fine. I didn't really mind it too much but then it happened again a few weeks after that. It was the same scenario (trying to park, switching from R to D or vice-versa), with the only difference that this time it was the D gear that didn't seem to kick in.

Is this something I should be worried about? It's really not a big deal but if it's a sign of something bigger then I definitely want to get it checked.

TYIA for your help.

I just experienced this today on my 2016 Grand Cherokee Limited (V6) less than 2k miles on it. Beats me what the issue is, it doesn't give any kind of indicator or message on the screen. Seems like it could be a pretty hazardous issue if under the right circumstances i.e you need to reverse quickly but your car is stuck in neutral! I was thinking maybe the shifter somehow was ever so miss-positioned, in between Reverse and Neutral modes. Not sure if that's possible or not. Or maybe I accidentally hit a button like towing. Not sure.

I'll be monitoring closely to see if it happens again and take it in if it does.

The only thing that comes to mine would be the S28 recall for the bad wire crimp problem. But that supposedly only covers early build 2016's.

You should at least take it to the dealer to see if it threw any trouble codes.

SOLVED! It happened to me and I couldn't recreate it. Took it to my wonderful local dealership and they knew what it was. When I shifted from park into reverse, I took my foot off of the brake a little too quickly. It was hard to recreate, but if I shifted from park into reverse, and at the same time lifted my foot off of the brake, it happened. Just needed to keep my foot on the brake 1/2 second longer. Easy fix!!

Hi,
I got the same issue with blinking R/D/N after start + moved gear shift from P to R at the parking lot. The engine light also was lit after it started blinking. 2016 GC 3.0 Diesel.

After a retry of putting gear shifter back to P->R once or twice it worked. I also restarted engine afterwards, but problem wasn't reproduced.

Engine light was stuck on the next two times I started the engine, but third time the engine light was put off. I don't know what happened here.
