Re: Rubbing or Moaning sound when braking

I got the jeep back with a new transfer case in it. The noise is different, but still present, along with a few new clunks. I'm done with Jeep.

Moaning while rubbing?

Sounds like you are doing it right.

My guess would be the clunks have something to do with the driveshafts. After they changed my transfer case the noise was gone but I had a vibration in the drivetrain than was taken care of with a new prop shaft. I only had the Jeep 2 weeks after the repair. I got rid of it for a new Overland. When I got rid of it it was fine, but there was no way I was keeping a vehicle that had been disassembled and put back together like that one had. In my opinion they are never the same, but some would disagree.

Re: Rubbing or Moaning sound when braking

Hi, newbie here. I have been trying to track down this "moaning" issue for quite some time. It sounds identical to what I have going on in my 2011 JGC. Dealership and Chrysler have given me the run around about "they are looking into it" and "we just can't throw parts at it" Don't know about you, but $35-40,000 on a new car seems a lot to me to "just wait." I wanted to see (and I hope it is not inappropriate to ask) what the name of the dealerships were that you dealt with and maybe some information I could throw in the face of my dealership to get some action? Again, hope I have not asked for anything inappropriate and thanks in advance.

Re: Rubbing or Moaning sound when braking

I worked with Herb Chambers of Danvers. It was a bad transfer case. But it still made the noise, it was more subtle after they replaced it. I ended up getting rid of the 2011 Overland V6. I had a bad shock, the rotors were warped, and after the transfer case went bad I decided I had had enough. Good luck and keep us posted on your results.

Re: Rubbing or Moaning sound when braking

Thanks for the quick response. I am going to take in next week. I'm to the point (based on my warranty coverage) of telling them to just keep it, give me the free rental car, and call me when it is done. I'll be sure to post whatever results I get or any updates on find out on the "Star Case" that was intiated. Again, appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

Re: Rubbing or Moaning sound when braking

My jeep was in the shop for about a month. When it initially went in they though it was the e-brake. Then it took about a week to diagnose the transfer case, another week to ship a new transfer case, a few days to install it. When I got it back I had it for a day then it went back to the dealer for another week because it still made the noise, but it was definitely quieter. But having the transfercase replaced they didn't put everything back correctly and I had a sever vibration on the highway and the drivetrain would clunk in stop and go traffic.

It sounds like the transfer cases in the WK2's are pretty weak from what I have been reading on the forums and from my experience. The customer service from Jeep was even weaker. I tried to have the dealer help me get out of the Jeep I was in and into a later build 2011 but I had no luck. I went to a BMW dealer and they gave me a good trade in price for the Jeep and I walked away. I really liked the Grand Cherokee but the dealer service, customer support, and reliability are really hard to justify.
