Rust above windshield

Hi guys. Just noticed a rust spot directly above and behind my windshield. Car is 3.5 years old and out of manufacturers original warranty and into manufacturers extended warranty.
Dealer had broken my windshield while repairing the cylinder head. They replaced the windshield. But about six months later when the rains came the car was leaking through the roof at that exact same spot. I took it back and they re-sealed it.
Now this shows up. I don't know when it started, I just noticed.
Dealer is adamant that they did a proper job.
FCA contact us Middle East don't reply, or acknowledge attempts to reach them. Emily from Jeep Cares doesn't appear to be around.
So how do I get on touch with someone whom I can talk to about this.
I do not feel that this is my responsability and Jeep and the local dealer need to resolve it satisfactorily.
Any ideas or suggestions?

That is definitely windshield replacement caused. Just saw the exact same on our 10+ year old truck.

No other rust on the entire vehicle but above the windshield. Two windshields have been replaced and we noticed rust looking just like yours above the windshield this fall. The rust actually cracked our windshield two months later - causing a third replacement.

The first thing the tech asked us was if we'd ever had a windshield replaced. He showed us rust all along the top of the windshield after they pulled it. He figured during replacement someone had nicked the paint when taking out prior windshields.

Get your records related to the "fixes" and don't quit calling.Wish I had better advice.

Re: Rust above windshield

Well I finally got through to Chrysler Middle East! Their Jeep facebook page was the life saver. They took my info and directed me to the official complaint page. So now it's all in the hands of Chrysler. I really hope they can do something because this is bumming me out big time. So much that I'm even willing to drive down 600 miles to Dubai for them to inspect it if need be!!
Problem with dealerships in most of the developing world is that there is no sort oversight and no one to take your complaint to at a local level. Which pretty much gives dealerships a carte blanche to do what they want and treat people as they wish. As long as they meet their sales target, they don't care about building brand loyalty. Which is why when most people are in the market for a new car, the brand gets changed as well.
Anyway, will keep you guys updated with Chrysler's decision once I hear from them. They always seem to come through. Fingers crossed it'll be favorable.

Re: Rust above windshield

When they remove the old windshield they cut the adhesive with a razor tool. This tool scratches the paint and leaves exposed bare metal and the rust is soon to follow. When I had my windshield replaced the tech took a paint stick to seal the scratch and this seals the bare steel from the elements. He told me it only takes a minute to do but saves a lot in the long run. It sounds like the installer on your job skipped this step and you are now seeing the result. Good luck.

I am sure that is precisely what happened. A tiny nick or scrape which is why it probably took so long for the rust to manifest itself to the visible eye. They were careless and did a rush job and this is evident from the water pouring in from the heavy rain. Before that it was oxidizing for almost six months with bits of water from washes and humidity doing the rest.
They also did a bad job when they resealed it since they didn't even bother to check to see if any damage had been done during the period in between. And then they have the guts to say that this is not their fault and that their techs are infallible. Carelessness and lack of principles on the dealership's part. They could/should have just owned up to it.

Just wanted to update you guys. Chrysler has come through again. They have agreed to fix and repaint the rusted area. So Kudos to them.
Back to the lical dealer woes : They claim that they will have to remove the windshield to make sure to remove any rust that may be underneath. So far so good. However, they claim that they can't use the same windshield again and I will have to pay for a new one...... is there a possibility that this may be true or are they trying to milk me for a new windshield and installation charges?

Not sure if that's true or not however if the dealership is trying to charge you to replace the windshield that has to be replaced due to something they did to begin with, that's just plain dishonest.

Not that you don't already know that. ; )

If you look towards the upper middle you can see the nick in the upper rubber where their tech attempted to seal where the water was coming in from. The rust and bubbling paint made that nick pop out. It wasn't visible to the eye before. That rubber strip is now deformed and only comes with a brand new windshield.
Grainy pic attached.... :-D
