rust spot - factory cover-up...

with a little over 200 miles on my 2012 overland, while exiting my car this morning I noticed this spot above my driver's front wheel well. Anyone else experience anything like this? It doesnt look like dealer touch up paint either cause the paint quality over the spot looks really good. What is my next step? I dont want them to fix/respray my fender because I know it will not come out right but yet I want to make sure it will not rust any further...

Re: rust spot - factory cover-up...

I don't think it is rust. It most likely is an imperfection/debris under the paint. You will find this in any mass-produced vehicle. It seems metallic paints are also more prone to this.

Take it back to the dealer. You should have nothing to worry about should they decide to respray it. Any competent bodyshop will get the color spot on.

Re: rust spot - factory cover-up...

I had to have my front bumper resprayed by the dealer due to a defect and it looks perfect. With the location of your defect I'd opt for the new paint otherwise I would be looking at it every time I entered and exited the thing and it would drive me insane.

Is that a scratch/scrape/slight dent to the right of the defect or am I seeing things?? Right edge of pic right on the curved to flat ridge...

Re: rust spot - factory cover-up...

Those pics are on the rear passenger door upper door jam. ( body not door if that makes sense )

Also one similiar that popped like a pimple on the rear passenger door 2 inches right of the handle.

Re: rust spot - factory cover-up...

I say leave it alone. It really wouldn't be worth the headache of body work, paint, and being without your vehicle for a week. Plus, you'd have to worry about them doing a good job. It looks like a factory paint imperfection.
