Re: Safety Recall P14 / NHTSA 14V-154 Brake Booster Success Poll

Went into my dealer and asked about the recall, the scheduling lady booked me an appointment for the following week. The install went smoothly from what I can tell, only took a couple hours to get the truck back. I popped the hood and saw the foam sleeve. The only issue was that my hood release was hanging down and needed to be snapped into place in the lower dash panel, and they broke a clip that holds down the plastic piece that the two hard brake lines go through before the master cylinder. Annoying but no big deal I suppose. Brakes feel fine, same as before I think. Although sometimes I notice the brake switch in the center console clicking when I apply the brakes in neutral...never heard this before.

My brake booster finally arrived! They are installing it today...46 days after they broke it.

Mine got done yesterday, dealer estimated a 2 hour eta but in about 1.5 hour i was on my way home. I cant really see anything, im not sure if they even touched it. The area is clean. Or they might be the cleanest mechanics ever.

I wish I could say the same. I walked out and looked at my GC during the repair....no fender cloths and crap draped over the sides. I went and told a manager to ask the mechanic to protect my paint...not happy. I don't treat my own vehicle that way.

Re: Safety Recall P14 / NHTSA 14V-154 Brake Booster Success Poll

Sorry some of you are having problems. Mine was successful. Everything is back in place, that side of the engine bay is clean and it looks like they had some sort of QA guy go through. There are green paint marks on all the removed fasteners, on the reservoir cap and on other items. I can say with 100% certainty that they were not there (on the fasteners and cap anyway) before surgery. Interior vacuumed and outside washed.
FWIW, at the same time I had them flush the brake fluid. The service advisor said that made it so much easier because they could remove the booster without having to keep the lines connected.

Re: Safety Recall P14 / NHTSA 14V-154 Brake Booster Success Poll

Had the recall done today and looking at the work I have some questions - everything about it looks wrong to my eyes comparing to the TSB. First the tabs are not flush with the side but actually flap over, the booster part is not one solid piece but cut at the bottom, it doesn't sit flush. Can anyone else tell me if this looks right or wrong?

Re: Safety Recall P14 / NHTSA 14V-154 Brake Booster Success Poll

No, that is not right. Looks like it was not cleaned prior to installing the shield and the adhesive did not stick. My dealer (or so it looks) cleaned the entire area. I actually wiped down the rest of the engine bay because I realized how dirty it was compared to the area in which they worked!

Sounds like they took a shortcut. If they cut the band they could wrap it around the booster without removing it.

Foam tab should be to the edge of the housing but not bent and wrapped around it according to the procedure. looks like various dealers are doing it various ways. Mine is below

Re: Safety Recall P14 / NHTSA 14V-154 Brake Booster Success Poll

That is a joke. I would walk back into that dealer, ask for the GM, show them a picture of the correct finished product as well as the TSB and ask them to explain to you why they did a SHORTCUT on a SAFETY RECALL!
