Re: Safety Recall with 2 year backlog???? Really Chrysler!

I had the brake booster recall service done months ago during a regular appointment. The dealer had what they needed on-hand. In my case, it was just the "condom" that someone mentioned above. I do need the visor recall done since my pano roof had maintenance, and that will get done the next time I have an actual reason to go to the dealership for service.

I went in for my leak down test 4 months ago and they told me they would call when when they had the parts ( just the shrouding). Well I went in for a oil change a month ago and asked if the had the shrouding in yet and they pulled out this entire book of people waiting for parts. God I hate my dealer. They are the worst! So happy I'm trading this pos in! I not even going to attempt to do the other recall

I had the recall performed on both my overland 2012 and durango 2014 2 months ago.
The wait time at my dealer was 2 weeks.
In both cases the booster was fine and just the shroud added.

Those wait times you are quoting seems strange......

I went in to have water pump replaced and had them do the 2 recalls the same day. No wait for parts. This really does seem odd.

Seems to be the norm around here. Took a week to get a shock, something you would think would be in-stock at the dealer. Ironically, they got a defective trim piece (something you would expect to order as really no need to ever replace and not even remotely required for the vehicle to operate) in a couple days.

Did they attempt to perform the recall and your vehicle failed the leakdown test?
They won't answer the question, just it is safe to drive. Much like talking to a lawyer. They did something when they stated they would call when the part arrives (paperwork doesn't show anything).

Personally, I would not be surprised it is failing the leak test. When new you would go out the next morning and the brake pedal was still soft (like most cars I have owned you could get 2-3 pumps out of the pedal before it got hard). Now after 1/2 a day of just sitting the pedal is hard as a rock. Noticed the slow degradation before the recall and wasn't surprised when I heard they issued one.

Going to another dealer isn't an easy option due to distance between them. Not everyone lives with multiple local dealers. I realize this is an option, but when my dealer is walking distance from work, Chrysler really should fix their dealer problems if that is the case. Also, my dealer ranks very high compared to the next nearest ones. I've been surprised that everything with Jeep is always something I should do different or accept because that is just part of owning a Jeep.

You can't extrapolate from one isolated data point. That's where you're off. More supply is ramping up for sure.

Quick Google search shows recall news release was 4/2/14. Doesn't seem they are ramping up much. Should have zero supply problems by now, it is 6 months later 10/4. Even if they are ramping up from 0 per week in May to 4 per week now, that will only be 8 per week in 6 more months at this rate which still could mean you don't get a call until next summer if you happen to be at the bottom of the list.

Re: Safety Recall with 2 year backlog???? Really Chrysler!

My understanding is that dealers are allotted X number of shields, with a higher number going to those in the rust belt states. I also believe that a dealer who does a high volume of these recall repairs also gets an increased allotment.

In any case, how fast the dealer gets replacement shield kits to "restock" their inventory depends on how fast they turn their recall repair paperwork around. Some dealers are a little better than others in that regard.

My jeep was tested beginning of the summer, they ordered "parts" whatever they were. It goes in next week for the fix! I am in the snow belt though...

I'm in NY and didn't have any problem having it done. They actually did it on a Saturday when I went in for a oil change. Was originally told it had to be done during the week. Now I have to do the headliner.

Re: Safety Recall with 2 year backlog???? Really Chrysler!

Had the recall done yesterday. Afterwards when I looked around under the hood to see what they did, I noticed that the brake booster shield was installed incorrectly. The 2 tabs were adhered to the front of booster, not on the sides like they are supposed to be. That means the shield was about 3/4" away from the firewall. I showed the service manager and the tech had to redo it. But, and get this, he got it done in 15 minutes since they know shortcuts to cut time so they might actually make some money doing recalls. The shield recall states that Chrysler will pay just shy of 1 hr to do the recall. So I watched while he did it again. This time mounting the shield correctly. I just wonder how many he did prior to this that were done incorrectly?
