Safety Recall with 2 year backlog???? Really Chrysler!

So my dealer placed me on the list for the brake booster recall when I was serviced in May. Said they would call when the parts arrived. Stated the issue is with rust/water getting into the system and then freezing, so no safety issue with driving the vehicle. I would agree with my knowledge of hydraulic systems and water getting into them.

Living in the rust belt and with the leaves falling, we are nearing freezing temperatures again. So I figure the dealer forgot to call and drop them a call today so it can get done. Dealers says they have a list of over 500 people waiting for the parts and are only getting 4 per week. So simple math shows it will take my dealer over 2 years to correct the issue.

What sense does this make, my dealer is in the region they issued the recall. Seems like the rust belt states should get serviced first (I get that they would delay repair on "southern" cars until getting all the at risk ones done).

Really starting to regret my decision to purchase the Jeep. Probably won't purchase another Chrysler product unless things start to change and am already considering trading at 5 years versus my normal 7-8. If parts are this difficult to get for the Jeep and since Chrysler doesn't rate the highest on reliability it seems like a ticking time bomb.

Oh, and for those that say you won't be without brakes, I agree, but have pinched nerves that means I don't always have the ability to apply force as hard as a normal person, so not having a booster doesn't make me feel safe when driving down the highway at 60 and traffic decides to stop.

You know it's weird, Chrysler also makes Dodge, and my last truck an 09 Ram 1500 Laramie 4X4 , was a super vehicle, very minor problems, great service from my Dodge dealer, trouble free...etc,
I can't say the same for my new Jeep GC SRT..... almost like they were made by two different manufacturers, I know they were made in different plants, but you would think the same level of quality control and engineering goes into all their vehicles and plants.....yet seems like the Jeeps are plaqued with problems, hard to understand when you consider that so many of the parts etc are shared with the likes of Dodge, Chrysler, and others.......Perhaps it's the dealerships that need to make some improvements, at least where I live

Maybe you can have your dealer at least check your booster for rust or corrosion in the area of concern. If there is rust visible they might be able to put your Jeep on a priority list. If there isn't, you might sleep better knowing that.

Or, you could have bought a GM car with the ignition problem and be dead now.

Just got the booster recall done. Had to wait 2 weeks for the part to come in.
While they were doing the work the service advisor saw the visor recall as well, they have parts now in stock and took care of it at the same time.

While I was waiting, I overheard another customer in for an oil change needed the booster recall and apparently my dealer has the parts in stock as he indicated all the person needed was an appointment since it takes two hours.

Maybe you need to find another dealer.

Any issues with your headliner after the visor repair? I'm afraid of that one.

Ha. Well at least you are dead so you don't have to fight with your insurance to try and prove you didn't rear end the car in front of you and then try to prove a frozen booster was at fault (which of course will work once they park it in the warm shop for an hour and it thaws).

If your booster passes the leakdown test, all you need is the condom they put around it. There are plenty of these available.

Did they attempt to perform the recall and your vehicle failed the leakdown test?

None that I can see. Headliner looks great. No tears or marks. I have the black interior FWIW.

I asked what in involved and they said just pulling the front of the headliner down a small amount to install plastic wire routing clips.

My dealer has been great so far. Super careful with car, clean service bay, etc.
I asked them to check for any software updates and they found and installed 5 for the PCM, TCM, HVAC, BCM, Amplifier.

Mike.

My dealer has the shields on hand. They slapped one on when I had it in for an oil change.

Maybe that's why your dealer has such a backlog... all of the shield kits are going to my dealer. They told me they've done several hundred shield installs by the time I had mine done.

Or; you could be like the millions of happy GM customers that drive safely back and forth upon the earth, who don't hang 50 pounds off the key chain. Just saying. No (high volume) car manufacuturer out there today, has any real claim to safety and "people first". Toyota, VW, Ford, GM, Honda, Chrylser, Hyundai; all of them have massive recalls, you have to be kind of stupid to think that one of them is somehow better than the other.

Had it done last week. No issues and no rattles.
