Sand Problems

We took our hemi overland on the beach at Corolla, NC today. Initially started out in sand mode, high range. No problems, then shifted into low range. After several miles of mostly packed sand, I did venture up into one of the communities which had softer sand. Shortly afterwards, I got the service 4WD system message. I decided at this point to shift back to high range, so I would not need a tow truck once I got to pavement. I could not get the transfer case to shift back after several tries. I drove slowly for a while on firm sand and shut down and restarted the car. Then I had no flashing message and it shifted back to high range. It goes to the dealer tomorrow.

Ken, if you haven't seen them already, check out Dunecrawler's posts about sand driving. He also had a similar issue as you describe.

The1Jake also drives sand a bit somewhere near OBX and may offer some input.
