Scratching sound right after ignition - Video - Help

I recently noticed that sometimes when i start the car, right after ignition is done cranking there is a split second scathing noise. It doesn't happen all the time. 5-6 months ago i got a check engine light came on. Took it to Meineke and they said it was cam shaft positioning sensor and sometimes these codes just pop up with no reason. They cleared it check engine light and said if it pops up again then there is something wrong and the sensor needs be changed. The light never came back on again.

I am thinking its either the engine starter acting up or a problem related to the cam shaft positioning sensor(even tho the check engine light never came back on again). I was able to take a video and capture the mysterious sound. Just wanted to see if anything similar happened to anybody on the board. Thanks in advance.

There doesn't seem to be an attachment. Atleast that i can see on my end.

Does it sound like its coming from inside the cabin or under the hood?

Eww that sounds nasty. Like definn12 said above, sounds like a starter to me as well.

It's the starter, the gear doesn't get out of the way of the flywheel fast enough while the ignition is engaged and the engine has already started.

You likely have an earlier v6? I've had it happen 4 or 5 times in a few years.
It ain't good but if it's physical it's easy if it's computer oriented you'll be leaving it be.

If it's repetitive I'd bring it to the dealer any competent mechanic will spot it instantly, may or may not need attention. Any dealer "tech" might take apart the glove box and a few door panels looking for the starter, or simply tell you it's normal.

Stop going to meineke.

yes it is 2011 v6. It happens every once in a while last 2 days it happened 3-4 times. How hard is to replace the started? I searched this forum and google and couldn't find any info on wk2.

It could be the signal not the starter.

The big hole is where it goes, I think this is the correct arrangement.

Re: Scratching sound right after ignition - Video - Help

Thank you for posting this!! I have been trying to capture the sound so many times. It never makes the sound when I remember the camera, and happens so sporadically that I can't predict when it will.

Also have a 2011 V6. Suspected starter, but don't know enough to be sure. Also tried searching and posting here with no luck. Was waiting to capture it on video to have the dealer and you all listen.

Thanks again! Subscribed
