Is there anyone out there besides me who's having problems with the seat panels on the back of the drivers seat or passenger seat coming off. I've taken my 2011 jeep grand cherokee to the dealership 4 times because the plastic panel on my drivers seat keeps popping off when I sit in the seat. The service manager at my dealership says that the seat panels have a defect so they won't stay on properly and might pop off at any time when people sit in the drivers or front passenger seat. The service guys ordered me a new rear seat panel, put it on, and it immediately poped off when I sat in the seat. As I said the service manager says it a design defect. another customer arrived at the dealership with a 2011 dodge durango and needed service for the same problem. His seat backs pop off to when he sits in his drivers seat. The service manager had ordered him a new rear seat panel also, but it popped off the minute this other customer sat in the drivers seat. The 2011 Durango and 2011 Jeep grand cherokee are actually the same vehicle. Pretty much designed the same on the inside with the same dash board, same seats, same everything exect the durango seats 7 people and the grand cherokee seats 5 people. Jeep customer service is a joke they act like they don't wanna help you when you call them. It's been about 4 months since I first brought this problem to the dealerships attention. They said they'd have to call jeep and I said why since this jeep is under warranty. I guess it's time for the better business bureau
There have been several people on here that have had the same issue, including myself. I will be getting my oil changed this month and will bring it up to the dealer, but souds like there is nothing they can do.
I had this problem and they replaced the driver's seatback. It has only popped off once since then. I also noticed on a grand Cherokee that I rented in Colorado. I agree that you should have them replace it until you get one that stays on.
I'll be taking mine in for the 3rd time for this problem. I think that it is a problem with the seat rather than a problem with the panel. There is probably some type of catch mechanism/hook inside the seat back that is either incorrectly installed or faulty.
My drivers side seat panel kept coming off. After several failed attempts at pushing it back in, I noticed some wiring that seemed to be in the way of the hook that is suppose to keep it in place. I moved the wires to the side, and then sat in the rear seat so that I could use my legs as leverage to push on the seat back hard. I really pushed it in. It has never come off since. You might try some real force to see if it grabs hold.
