Yes 12,000 miles in 4 months. Not km.

Re: Seat wear at 12,000 miles

Hi Everyone... I am new to this forum but found issues via search on Google so I joined. I have had my 2011 Grand Cherokee Limited Summit for about 5 months now and I have 7,000 miles on the odometer. I first started noticing the wear around 3,000 miles and I even brought it up to the dealer during the oil change and told him that I would wait until around 6,000 miles to report this.

I reported this to the dealer last week and they took pictures that they were going to send over to Chrysler directly for resolution. Just as you have experienced, mine wears on the bolster and even formed a crease where your "butt" contacts the seat. I am 6'0" 190 lbs and the only driver, I baby my vehicles to say the least so this is a common problem all the way around.

I will post more once I hear back from the dealer regarding this, but I am also going to send images from this post so that the dealer will know that this is a common problem.

Thanks!

- Dennis

Re: Seat wear at 12,000 miles

I had 2 previous WK's that had the Laredo X leather and I used Lexol leather conditioner monthly or so and never had any wear show up through the 60,000 miles I kept each of those vehicles.

The steering wheel was another story though. The leather was worn off the top of the steering wheel after about 20k miles. Looked like total crap.

My 2011 Laredo X has some very minor creasing but no wear showing yet with black leather. The steering wheel leather still looks new at 14k miles and I hope it stays that way.

I reported my issue and Chrysler approved the replacement the same day. Same crease same place.

Re: Seat wear at 12,000 miles

Hey Kevlar...

I understand that Chrysler has approved this but does this "really" rectify the problem at hand? My concern is that this will be an ongoing issue, even with the seat replacement unless they have switched manufacturers or materials?

Not being mean here but regardless of what everyone else says on this thread (sliding butt across seat, etc.) this is not normal. I honestly go through new cars on a regular basis (because I am a car finatic) and never had I had leather problems with any of them. My 2010 Maxima SV Premium had light beige leather and after trading it in at 20K for my 2011 LaCross, the seats were pristine. I clean my seats regularly with diluted "Super Clean" to remove the blue jean dye, then I follow up with the Lexol Cleaner, then Lexol Conditioner.

Personally, I know that this is a problem, and besides that fact that I love this vehicle, I am afraid that this will soon become a vicious cycle of seat replacements and eventually you will get to the point where Chrysler won't help you any longer.

Anyone else want to weigh in on this?

Thanks!

Dennis

Re: Seat wear at 12,000 miles

If the seat problem is a major issue, there are probably many people lining up at their local service desk. I doubt if Chrysler would replace the material with known inferior leather. The seat manufacturers receive the leather in batches. Perhaps there was a bad batch. Doesn't mean they're all bad. I believe Chrysler Corp. is doing their best to resolve problems at their level. What the dealers do is another story.

Re: Seat wear at 12,000 miles

I have to agree with Dennis here that this is definitely a disappointment, it is not related to how you board or exit the vehicle, or how much you weigh, but rather a very low quality leather...

i bought the GC 70th anniversary once i saw the marvelous green/brown/black interior, and now after 4000 miles to see this leather fading out and starting to crack is a BIG disappointment... it is also happening to the passenger seat where my tiny 100/110 lbs wife rides maybe once every 2/3 days...definitely leather quality issues....

i had the tahoe, clk, jeep GC 2000, nissan pick up and about a dozen other cars and never did i have such issues...i hate to think of the way the interior would look a year down the line...

Re: Seat wear at 12,000 miles

Seriously... and this post is for those who are serious about this issue. I've seen many jokes so far about weight and silly stuff like that. This is really a problem, perhaps bad batches? Who knows... but this is really a problem. I have been pretty busy this past weekend and currently in my office but I am going to step out for lunch, take some pics and post so that you guys can see.

As I mentioned before, I've had many vehicles... all with leather, different shades, but none... and I do mean none.. has shown seat wear. Blue jean dye? Yes... cleaned and the seats always looked brand new. I will keep everyone posted on the outcome of my issue with Chrysler. I will more than likely give the dealership a buzz this afternoon.

Thanks Everyone,

Dennis

OH! Forgot to mention that I talked to the dealership today and was told that Chrysler approved the order of a bottom seat cover? Immediately after he said that, I checked and noticed that the seat back itself is also wearing slightly around the bolsters. Doh! Oh well.

Nothing subtle about that seat wear. Weird.
